: Linux for android
: pyte June 07, 2013, 10:24:07 AM
I'm not any good in this things but i'd like to know how i could get to replace android with linux for my mobile phone.
i think this could be possible but i don't know if the LG Optimus zone would handle this?
any ideas and references to a good read on the same would be appreciated.

Regards,
pyte.

There is as far as Im aware no 'native' linux solution for mobile phones yet.
Most of what your gonna find online are chrooted env and alike, most of which are hacks.
Mostly due to them locked bootloaders etc companies trying to prevent it.
There is archlinux for ARM for example.

And what might interest you is that there will be a ubuntu phone coming out.

The current "new" ubuntu touch is android based.

And you can get the debian package manager on android :)

Unfortunately i haven't been in a position to interact with the new ubuntu one but still i hope i will soon.
i assume it would be as effective as it has proven to be for my laptop.

Personally I never liked ubuntu.
However in this case im very willing to make an exception.
As long as its linux based, man that would be great.
Thats an understatement, finally a useful device!

chrooted is really the only way its being done right now. Linux Deploy in the market works well. As far as native a few devices have gotten debian on them. Check through XDA-Developers. They have methods and stuff

Native Archlinux on Galaxy Note 10.1 (N80XX)

I think he means to run a chrooted linux in android :P. But the whole linux command would better reffered to as busybox.

Busybox is in no way a complete linux and has many limitations, even if you're rooted.

Yhea but in commands it's something :P. It's pretty fun to set up a chrooted linux and then use android vnc to connect to it.
