The reason I ask is because I always consider myself relatively well capable of handling stress.
However there are some days that It almost gets the better of me.
Had a server offline today for nearly an hour , started beating it with a dead cow and still wouldnt come up.
In the meanwhile I had almost 5 million phone calls about ppl complaining about that server.
You know that feeling when you seriously start to run out of ideas.
I seriously consideren walking out to smoke, that doesnt happen often.
Everything is fine now,... but damn thats stress.

I am a relatively calm guy but when shit hits the fan I watch a movie or a TV series, enjoy a snus, throw a party/go to a party, take a beer and/or listen to relaxing music.

If you're worried about something and you can do anything about it, then do what you can to fix it.But if you can't do anything about it, then its not worth worrying about, and being stress out about it will accomplish nothing and end up giving you a headache.

I believe it's a really personal thing, but I'll still give you my 2 cents.
I think that trying to calm down when under big stress is often not gonna work out if the situation is really heavy. Instead, accept your current mood and channel all those energies onto something else. You know, hit a punchball until you can't feel your knuckles, go running for 2 hours, listen to "angry" music and sing along. Find a way to pour out.
If you are unable to do that, try masturbating. It really does wonders for me at times, it completely erases both good and bad thoughts off my mind for a while. Just don't rush it, take time for yourself!

Almost all comments gave a way of beating stress in a general fashion way, the OP was talking about stress at work. There's a difference between what you will face at work or in daily life activities. Watching a movie or smoking some shit can be considered a sign of incompetence when facing a stressful situation at work.
Daily life stress is not the subject here, you can do whatever you want to overcome, run naked or beat a homeless guy with a baseball bat. At work the best thing to do is to be calm and try to fix it, put some effort. try to absorb the anger of frustrated customers.

just wanna add a little something it to this; try to get yourself some funny movies, or just try to get enough sleep.

At work i usually just go outside and smoke a cigarette .... eventually grab the closest guy i consider a friend with me and vent my stress on him (civilized) :)

Thats what I always try to do , sadly I often dont have anyone to talk to.

I snap quickly, sometimes at those closest to me.
If I don't snap, it boils up and I blow up later on, again, sometimes at those closest to me.
By no means violently by the way, just shouting and snappy remarks, but still not pleasant.
