I wan to learn how i can crack wifi passwords..... i heard something abt cowpatty but i dont get it

Google is your best friend... Also lifehacker.com has a article about how to crack access points that have WEP encryption.

It depends on your hardware, there is a list of working wireless devices.

Totally depends on you're hardware.. I use a osx vm so I can run Kismac (OSX kismet alternative) which is great software for packet injection and wireless cracking in general. If you are serious I would invest in an external usb wifi card. Just make sure the drivers for packet injection and other goodies exist for it and are well documented to work.

I would suggest an Alfa with an upgraded 9DBI antenna.

Get Virtualbox, BackTrack 5 (.iso) and an ALFA AWUS036H card...ALFA works off-the-shelf with BT5. Great for packet injection!!! You will be cracking 802.11 in no time.  ::)
