The term you want to look for is "privilege escalation"
I.e.

What's the alternative? We provide no information? At least from his post we can tell he has tried and is working on something so it's best we provide information so he can rise past the "noob" level, right?

Well he only has two posts.
The first post was roughly a month ago, why even bother?
He hasn't contributed once, why should we care what he wants?
No matter how nicely he asks..

Because we are a nice community. We help when a question is asked. The flaming type of responses would be appropriate if he asked the same thing in a stupid manner or didn't search the forum.
To me the question asked didn't seem very stupid, maybe he didn't know the term and so he asked? and this haven't been asked before...

Every bit of information we provide accumulates to the whole forum, that's how the knowledge bank is built.

Now, enough off topic. Deque answered the post.
