So I came to the conclusion quite awhile ago that the only way to download a good copy of a movie is to wait for it to come out on DVD, otherwise it's all bootleg. Obviously this makes sense I suppose, but for some reason I feel like I've talked to people who can get movies(in good quality) before they come out on DVD.
This is impossible right? Or is my subconscious onto something?

Well their used to be a LOT more that got released before they hit the theater/while in the theater, but with certain changes made by hollywood on how they deal with pre-release vids has dropped the number of leaks down dramatically. Basically they canary trap all pre-release DVD's/showings of a movie so that they know EXACTLY who had access to that particular copy that made its way to the web...and they prosecute heavily. Frankly considering how old canary trapping is im surprised it took them as long as it did to start doing it. It's also why when you DO see a pre-release their are portions of it that are either flat out chopped out or blurred as the bootlegger is trying to avoid being caught by these measures. they also added in better controls on how many hands have access to the pre-releases as well, further reducing potential leaks.

So.... bummer.

You still might end up lucky if you're a member of a private tracker.

Yeah I figured... Ugh who has the time to apply for those. The only private tracker I'm a part of is informational materials only, and some of the music and movies trackers have ridiculous applying processes. Not that I blame them but like I said; who has the time?

There are a few options. Screeners are usually sent out for festival and events and sometime get leaked. These past months/year there has been a lot of WebRIP as well. Some countries, ISP or airlines sometime offer movies that in still in theater and unreleased in DVD on-demand. They are usually in high quality (at least 720p). There are some other rare cases like a few years ago when the pre-release of X-Men was leaked without half the effects yet in there.

WebRIP? Never heard of such a thing.

Quick search on the Pirate Bay. All the "big" movies have WebRIPs.

Yeah I googled briefly about it. I don't see how webrips would help with downloading pre-release movies though. Maybe I skimmed too much?

As I mentioned above in some countries and/or commercial thingy or whatever it is possible to order movies on-demand before they are out in DVD. Most of the early WEBRips that come out weeks before DVDs have korean subs. They mainly come from asian countries and english audio is added on top of the image.

Lol yeah those days seem to be over.
Remember the good old days , lol 500mb of crap quality pre-releases/stolen.

lol camrip :D
Private trackers are great, and if you don't have the time for the ratio crap, I made a nice article about tracker ID stealing in VIP, look it up :)

Sometimes you get lucky and someone puts out a full quality version before it actually comes out in stores, but it is pretty hit and miss. One thing that I should mention is that sometimes movies come out on iTunes a week or two before their actual DVD release, and you can find them then.

Yeah I remember it... it's not about ratio's for me though. It's about the application process.
Well shit, I've been looking for Webrips and so far every one I find is as bad of quality as a theater bootleg... or is a theater bootleg. Will look harder I suppose. Thanks for the information.

Do you have a good download/upload speed lucid and are you familiar with keeping good ratios?

Why yes I do. I am a member of a private tracker, although the one I'm a member of is strictly for learning materials and things of that nature. So I'm familiar with keeping a good ratio and I have a speedy internet as well.
