yes, it's very sad. However no matter how much videos you make, how much really sad speeches you make or whatever, nothing will change. The most saddest part that nothing will change...

That was upsetting but as Kulv said "The most saddest part that nothing will change...".

Not the birds D:
And all because you couldn't recycle your bottle cap...

always knew that our garbage is dumped at abandoned islands but had no idea these animals were trying to digest it

should have gotten millions of views since february but it doesn't even have 2,000.  selfish pricks.

In my country, someone developed a way to convince people to save bottle caps. For each ton of bottle caps we could gather, an institution would offer a wheelchair to people in need. So it is kinda usual (not usual enough IMO) to enter a bar/market/whatever and have a 5L water bottle half full of bottle caps. Maybe if this initiative was reproduced worldwide it would make some difference.

And this was shaping up to be a day free of anger outbursts.... The most idiotic thing to me is that people can't wrap their heads around the fact that everything on this planet is finite. Space, water..... life. Yet we think that if we keep generating new garbage that never decomposes, the trash fairy will come through every few years and collect it all and take it to another universe where trash doesn't negatively affect anything.

dumping trash in space sounds like a good idea

I highly highly recommend Carl Sagan's television series Cosmos: a personal voyage, but especially the last episode, who speaks for Earth? Here's an excerpt. For reference/perspective, this was broadcast in 1980.

It is most definitely not ideal at all, but I honestly think shooting all the trash humans produce out into the depths of space would be better than dumping it all in the Earth. There would be less pollution, and life in the universe is so so rare, the best we can tell. The only life we know to exist is here, of course, so I think it would be very unlikely our trash would have a tremendous negative effect on life elsewhere. The ideal thing would obviously to not produce trash like we do.

This kind of thinking makes me sick. Instead of finding an actual problem to our solution, the typical human reaction is just to find a "better" place to hide their mistakes. It's like a fucking child hiding all the crap in his room underneath his bed instead of cleaning up.

"Well, since we absolutely CANNOT stop producing large amounts of disgusting fucking garbage we might as well just dump it where no one is looking." and "Space, is REALLY REALLY big so it won't matter."

That's the same kind of thinking that is causing 90% of our ocean's wildlife to become extinct due to trawling. "Well, the ocean is huge, so lets just scrape and vacuum all the life out of it. What could possibly go wrong? It won't matter, at least in our lifetimes."

Turns out, we were wrong. Humans have been wrong over, and over, and over again. It's completely idiotic to think that any idea we have won't be found out to be wrong in the near future. Idea's such as:

life in the universe is so so rare, the best we can tell. The only life we know to exist is here, of course, so I think it would be very unlikely our trash would have a tremendous negative effect on life elsewhere.
Yeah, the best we can tell now. You are forgetting one important fact: Humans are stupid and arrogant. We consistently believe that we finally have the right answer. That we've figured things out. Humans are the most ignorant form of life I could possibly think of. We somehow just can't comprehend the fact that shit takes up space, and space is finite. So we just decide to shit everywhere.

I have a better idea, instead of saying; Well space is really really REALLY huge so it won't matter if our disgusting garbage just floats around the last beautiful untouched frontier, how about we die. We all just fucking die, or at least most of us.

Humans are the real trash.

can't dump it in space anyway. it would cost too much fuel to carry a whole country's shit up to the sky. we're talking about garbage that would weight tons

But it would be the most probable thing to do to cleanse earth from garbage.

Again, a plague or worldwide flood would be much more effective... Or global mass suicide. Besides it wouldn't "cleanse" anything. It would just provide a new place to put our trash.

: Kulverstukas December 14, 2013, 09:58:41 PM
You cannot clean one thing, without getting other other one dirty. However I agree, a mass catastrophe MIGHT change the way people think about garbage and earth... I read an article not long ago, debating whether a man is a parasite. The article is not important about what I am saying, but the ending statement really got me, and I quote (translated to english ofc):
Some people might not be parasites, however mother nature has effective methods to get rid of the parasites.
And that is all true. If you fuck with mother nature, it turns around and fucks humanity back, and then people sob, boo hoo thousands killed in tsunamis or big-ass floods. You should have thought of that before you fucked with it. With every dead person there is less garbage production
According to VSauce, humanity has already used used up approx. half of earth's resources, and shit isn't getting better.
Ignorant shit like this makes me so fucking angry. But what can we do... NOTHING. At best we can do our part by properly recycling stuff.

Exactly, couldn't agree more. Part of our problem is that every time there's a flood(natural cleansing/consquenses) we all donate 5 dollars to facebook in order to keep all these people that should have died alive so they can continue sitting in their own filth. That's exactly why there's 7 billion shit-eaters on this planet instead of... well... less. These things happen, forests burn due to forest fires, species die of disease, humans (should) die of flood and natural disasters(a misnomer IMO). It's supposed to be a cycle. What happens when there's a forest fire? Sure trees burn and animals die, but it also cleans the forest a promotes new growth. The problem, gentlemen, is that humans think they can trip up the cycle. We think we are smart, we think we can just keep making babies that grow up to be shit-eating garbage-producing assholes, and we think we can keep them all alive. Well my friends, I tell you this is an ignorant way of thinking. You can only put so much garbage into one can before it overflows.

But what can we do... NOTHING. At best we can do our part by properly recycling stuff.
We could have stopped using plastic and shit that is not biodegradable. Seriously, who's the fucking idiot who realized that this shit doesn't break down yet thinks you can just keep putting it in trash heaps and hope it eventually disappears?

Let me pose another question. Who says that nothing bad would happen if you just dumped a bunch of garbage into space? Time and time again people assume that nothing bad will happen. How many times has science been proven wrong? Have we ever dumped a bunch of garbage into space before? No. We actually have NO FUCKING clue what would happen. We barely know anything about the universe. We cannot pretend to know what would happen if we started doing this.

"I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure"

- Agent Smith

Maybe that's why Skynet tries to wipe out humans. We should welcome our machine/AI overlords. We created this mess and we can't fix it.

If by that you mean that we should either cease and desist IMMEDIATELY or accept our inevitable and imminent death, then I agree.

You think exactly the same way I do :)
We are the defenition of parasites.
Indeed,  besides there is no other creature that spoils his own environment.
Some species even die spontaniously to maintain balance.

Interlect is not perse defined by succes rate, we humans are pretty potent because we have just a little more brain capacity  but if this is the defenition of interlect well no, not digging it.
The arrogance of which  we think and talk about ourselves is shameful.
We are not developed , we are not in control and we dont even understand the universe around us, a stone throw away  any other species on this planet.
One simple event produced by nature is enough to kill us , damage/destroy our creations and flatline our poorly designed infrastructure.
Ontopic; the fact that we destroy the very planet that not only provides us with life .. it created us, is just one more part of evidence that we are not efficent in whatever way you look at it.
Sources of 'infinite' energy are everywhere we have no waste problem  if only we would design things a little better.
However I believe the whole issue is that we are being held back (our own fault) by disasters such as money and religion.
These illusions are at best  virtual concepts which by nature have not a single positive influence on our existance.
Dont get me started about 'money' I take a walk and rage.
If we want true progres we seek balance with our planet in a way that we can assure our existance in 100 years.
The statistics are truly scare , if we continue at this rate in 50/100 years the lives of people will drastically change , food alone is a huge problem, not even mentioning events like diseases , dirnking water etc.
And even though the leading scientists around the globe confirm that and even warn for these matters, we stare.
Our daily lives too busy with work , money, stuff , especially buying more and more, that we dont wake up (than they say humans dont hibernate)
Its so pathetic, politics use the arguments of green-house-gasses , forests being chopped down etc , than some asshole stands up and opens his mouth with a lot of 'this costs money , bad for the economy' that we dont do anything about it.
We created an economic system that is so poorly designed that its killing us, slowly but really effective.
I wish, I hope I live the day that we  , with 'we' I mean all of us, decide that we need to change to be alive.
Likely this day will never come or  if it does the world would probably have to go to shit so bad to be able to drag people from this  tunnel vision I wont reach that age probalby.
Ive said enough for now.

I support nature and her's disasters. When everyone sobs, I silently smile... crying won't change anything, might as well support the power that will eventually kill us for a reason we cannot argue about.
Sure it would be sad, very very sad if one of your own (like a family member) would be a victim of such stuff, but then you have to remember that nature is mad.

Also I would really really really recommend to watch this documentary, it's really great, and shows that some people really do care so much about it: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/addicted-plastic/
