Someone please just...... tell me how to fucking install it on USB. I'm sorry, I just can't get it to work. The fucking documentation on their website is fucking wrong and doesn't fucking work for me. They tell you to do:
mount -o loop trinityrescuekitisofilename.iso /mnt
And then they tell you to start copying shit. Well guess what, it fucking mounts read only so go fuck yourself TRK website. Has anyone done this the simple way with like dd or something. I tried that once but no dice.
I'm too tired for this right now it shouldn't be this annoying to install a fucking iso on a fucking usb fuck fuck.
-
So let me get this straight. you want to just mount this iso on a usb, is that right?
-
I would like to burn the iso to usb. Don't tell me to use Unetbootin because that literally hasn't worked for any iso on any device I've tried in the past 2 years. Literally.
Normally I just use the dd utility. For some reason that doesn't seem to want to work for me.
-
are there any errors by any chance?
I'm thinking you came across
mount: warning /mnt seems to be mounted read-only
-
Yes. I'd really rather not follow the website anyway. They are clearly stupid, the documentation assumes that your usb device would most likely be mounted /dev/sda.
-
I've used unetbootin SEVERAL times and has never failed on me... there are other options too, multisystem, YUMI, Universal USB Installer, live usb install, etc. Check out pendrivelinux.
OR
TRK has a handy ultility to make a usb
Download the iso, run it from Vmware, hook up your stick and run trk2usb there.

I just did this with YUMI and Unetbootin respectively and they both had no issue. Could try downloading the iso again, checking filesums etc. And you can also manually open the iso and copy contents, then just make it bootable from BIOS. But one thing you don't want to do is get mad and cloud your judgement, because the answer is probably right in front of you. (If that sounds cliche fuck it I tried)

The day is new. I will try again. I know the iso is good because I did burn it to a cd just fine. If it doesn't work I'm just going to leave it on the cd. How was your USB formatted when you used it with unetbootin. Mine is a FAT32 atm. I don't know if it matters though.
EDIT: So unetbootin successfully succeeded to succeed at successfully burning TRK to usb.
Success!
P.S. - That is literally the first time Unetbootin has worked for me with anything in the past two years. I had completely given up on it.
-
First I shredded everything on it and then I overwrote the free space, allocated a new partition in gparted and then finally I used Unetbootin. I've only had an issue with the program when I tried making a TAILS live key. For some reason TAILS and Unetbootin didn't ever work for me until I got a Kingston USB. Whatever it is, it seems your problem has fixed itself.
Also note: EXT{3,4} format plays nicer with USB live keys than FAT - for me anyway.

Never ever use FAT! It is the most worthless filesystem format of all time!
-
I think I'm going to try formatting USB in ext3 from now on.

It's probably for the best. Actually I use ext2 (that's what my LUKS setup is apparently):
