: UEFI Boot / Which Linux?
: Phenom July 10, 2014, 01:12:50 AM
I have a Windows 8.1 PRO laptop running well - windows. I have UEFI Boot and am planning on dual-booting it with a Linux to start out coding.

Please help me choose the OS using the following requirements.
- Must have a nice UI? I don't like having cluttered desktop icons and ugly colors....personal taste.
- I have only 80/912 GB left on hard-drive , so im prob. going to alot only 40 GB to linux installation - so will need one that will be fairly powerful
- I will be using this OS for programming and "hacking" in corporation with this forum

Laptop Spec:
Intel i5 (Gen 3) Clocked @ 2.8 Ghz
8 GB Ram
1 TB Harddrive
4k Monitor , and 1080p Laptop monitor
Skullcandy in-built speakers
& Intel 4000 Video Graphics (Next time I'm buying an Nvidia one)

Edited the title to avoid confusion.

All of the requirements you listed are fitting for just about any Linux. So.. idk, try Debian or Slackware.... Or Slackware.  :P

I would suggest Manjaro Xfce.. That was the first Linux i installed... They look amazing!... I would recommend disabling UEFI and let Grudge do the work... You re gonna have problems if you leave them both. And also it has  a very friendly user-based installation with visual installation. If its the first time installing Linux on your computer try learning some stuff about partitioning, so you dont mess up your computer. And again,DISABLE UEFI.
