Hello,
I'm searching for a recomendation of some good wireless penetration book (Using GNU-Linux) for some one who doesn't knows anything about this topic.
I wanted to start with the Backtrack 5 Wireless Penetration Testing Beginner's Guide but it seems that it is needed some previous acknowledgements.
Also i would like to ask if after understanding the content of this kind of books it is really possible to penetrate the wireless access situated in city's. Most of them being home networks with the default long WEP keys. I don't matter to spend years learning techniques, but i do want to make those years useful to gain fast internet access.
Any experience/advice/recommendation would be appreciated!

Grab a beer and watch vivek's video tutorials on wireless security, you can find it on security tube.
After you done that go read some basics on TCP/IP, linux and ofc the 802.x protocol.
You'll be a wifi wizzard ;)
I dont know under which rock you you slept last couple years but WEP is so broken that the lenght of the key is of no interest, nor do I know where you are from but its use has long passed.

Thanks proxx, I'm not really fan of videos but I'll start right now! I thought that wireless penetration was in the most of cases by brute force.
I'm happy to be wrong!

Same goes for me but this is the exception :)
And as for WPA/WPA2 this is still mainly bruteforce since no real flaws have been published hitherto.

Get Vivek's book. It's really very good. You can find it on a pirate ship near you. Ahoy matey.

The book is great, even more detailed than the online tutorials. thanks for the advice!

The hacking exposed books are pretty good, not sure what the versions are now but probably worth a look
