Before I continue with this, have in mind, I don't use WiFi at home, so I kinda have little experience with it.
I'm planning on getting a laptop soon, because uni. Anyways, I was thinking, if you know the router's password, (In my country, we have 2 ISPs that provide for ~90% of population, and I know the default admin/isp technician password.) Could you somehow see what is their password?
If you couldn't, I would then resort to resetting it.
The main problem I am facing, can you even get access to the router if you haven't connected to the network via the same password?

How can you connect to the device in the network without actually being in the network? you cannot. You need to first connect to the network and only then you can access the router web panel. Some routers have a bad config or a feature which allows anyone to connect to the router. For that you will nees to know the IP and Port.

To elaborate on what Kulverstukas said, you must first connect to the wireless device either physically or wirelessly which requires the BSSID and the WEP/WPA(2) pass-phrase - Generally.
The wireless authentication pass-phrase is (should be) different from the routers administrative login page credentials (default credentials are freely available all over the net for most routers).
So your method will work only if you are already physically or wirelessly connected to the router. That being said, hacking wifi is a relatively trivial matter, especially for WEP and certain implementations of WPA.

It's easier if you can connect to the device through cable, then you only need the admin password, which could be default for the brand used. Also there are many router sploits to use as well, check out http://www.routerpwn.com/

You should be able to change the router's setup page codes(if that's what you're asking) from the setup page, itself. Try the link kulver shared or look at the sticker under the router.

Well yeah, that's exactly what I was afraid of :(.
Cheked out that link, most routers these ISPs give is huawei, I see some nice exploits, but they are mostly DDoS.

It might be my knowledge of english but i don't quite get the question here. If i understand right you have (your own) router which wifi password you dont know and you don't know credentials to routers setup page. Also don't get what your ISP has to do with it? Does the router have isp's own firmware in it(i have that kind of box). If not and you havent change any credentials you should be fine with these http://portforward.com/default_username_password/Huawei.htm (http://portforward.com/default_username_password/Huawei.htm) . If yes, then your isp should have provide you needed credentials.
And about connecting to router, you didn't answer to Kulver when he asked about cable connection? I would imagine you have that possibility if it's your router.

Edit: i re-read your post with a thought and now i guess i understood, you were meaning to acces some wifi at uni? My eyes probably jumped over the "uni" word last time. ;D But like pointed out by others if not able to get wpa-key, your best(and only) chance would be to get access to cable connection and that way to setup page of the router. Still i don't get why you want to change password, trying to hijack some wifi or what?

Sure , you start talking about wireless security , apart from being very common knowledge, just seems out of place, also since you posted a near identical post in another thread.

Yeah, i get that and question was already answered so i don't add anything to that. But i assume that with password you mean wifi's wpa(2)-key. So if your goal is just to get connected to this some wifi for being able to use that connection for normal internet use for example, but your problem is that you don't know the wpa-key? So let's imagine that you somehow gain access to routers setup page, like you wanted to. Usually you can see the current authentication key over there and then you would have no problem to connect to that wifi. So why to change the key? Just being curious,
But if you have some other reasons/goals to change that password then forget what i said. :P
And btw. if that router is provided by ISP and it happens to have ISP's custom firmware in it, then there's small possibility that wifi's authentication key isn't even handled from routers setup page. Don't know how common this is but i have seen setup where wpa-key and ssid is handled from ISP's internet page where you also can handle your billing, orders and stuff. But i guess this is not very common.

There is not much point in screwing over a already busted thread but I think you got the wrong idea.
I am not sure where you come from but you dont have to worry much about the lack part, going around insulting people is not much apreciated here, just to be clear.
Would like to know what you think you know, thus far you bullshit around about tor and some wifi security, you gotta come up with something more than that to be in a position to state such things.

Oh I think I'm in an excellent position to tell him how to do his job. Infact I would argue that if I am not allowed to call someone in an administration out on when they're failing in their duties then I'm probably not in an organization I want to be in. Because organizations like that are known as fascist dictatorships and are no way conducive of a healthy democratic society that thrives in debate and justice.
