Just wanted to say that, I ordered it from http://www.dx.com/p/neje-zb01-diy-google-cardboard-virtual-reality-3d-glasses-brown-331938 and it is on its way now. Should come in about a month.
Anyone heard of/have it? share your thoughts.
It should be pretty damn cool :D a friend of mine has one and he made an active cooling mod because the phone was heating up so much from all the graphics lol.
-
Cool, keep me updated on how they are.
-
Looks awesome, first time I've ever seen this. Looking forward for a review.
-
Someone posted about them before, yes pretty awesome dude as suggested make a review when u receive them:)
I think at some point I'll buy them too, probably in the near future :)
-
That's awesome. It would be great to paint some shit on them.

Well today I received the kit, assembled it and was a bit disappointed lol. I dunno what I expected, but something better than what I got - maybe Galaxy s2 isn't fully compatible, because it's a bit too small, the magnet switch doesn't always work and the whole view is pixelated so much, also the screens don't merge, stays as separate screens and it just confused the fuck out of me. Overall a cool thing, you get what you pay for I suppose :P but only works great with a few phones...
-
That is the most ridiculous thing I have seen this month. Oh well its on sale at the moment so I guess I will order one just to say I have one.
-
I have one of these and they are pretty cool, the effect is rather immersive and for the price you cant really go wrong... Hope you enjoy it!
Just saw your review and it worked well with a HTC One m8
Staff note: modify dat shii...

I've had mine for a while now. Haven't been able to use it yet because I have a tablet now instead of a smart phone.
I got it just for the lenses anyway. I did find some code they provide for it and "could" make it work with my galaxy tab 3, if I ever fire up eclipse again and adjust how and where the screen fits.
I plan to play a whole lot more with it when I get a RasPi and a decent lcd screen to fit it better.
In general I think it's a good idea, even if only to watch 3d things while laying in bed or something.

Ok, I take what I said before back. It seems to me that the GCardboard app is just shitty, it doubles the view somehow, not really well made.
I saw this video today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWayxeg-k4c and decided to try some of those apps myself. It was completely different with S2. I tried the rollercoaster and handglider, it was awesome :D doesn't double the view, can be seen clearly in focus. However it probably needs a better phone because you can see the screens pixels :D
Anyway, this thing is really fun if you have the right apps and after searching a bit there is a TON of them.

Coaster app is amazing, you sit under a tea cup!

So here are some pics of the thing. I did some mods to it, glued some velcro to where your forehead touches the cardboard so that it doesn't look so dirty, because of grease foreheads lol. Ant added some velcro where your nose goes too, dunno why... :P

Some of the apps I have are: Rollercoaster, VR Fly, VR Space Relaxation, Graveyard virtual reality tour, Refugio 3D station, Wings, Lantern Festival VR, SBS Video Player, Virtual Cinema Free, Hand-gliding, Dive city rollercoaster, Cardboard.

I bought a Durovis Dive a few months back and when it arrived I realised my phone doesn't have a gyroscope :(
'T will be awesome when someone creates a good streaming app for pc to android, that would be a game changer.

Don't think that would work, maybe for pictures and movies... you still need a gyroscope and you need it to track your head motion, so you can't really put a computer to your face :P streaming PC->phone would be slow, PC would need to get gyro data then calculate the movement and stream it back to a phone.
A dedicated device, such as a phone, solves all this.

That problem can be fixed by using FaceTrackNoIR or just using your mouse to look around. You are right that it wouldn't be convenient, but it is a fix.
By streaming I mean streaming by using a cable connection, USB to USB. There would be a slight delay but I'd be able to live with it. I know there are android devices that support HDMI output, now there just has to be an android phone with HDMI input :D
I excpect more apps to become available soon because GearVR will be released!
