: Long range parabolic dish antenna project!
: Day_dreamer October 22, 2014, 07:15:54 PM

Just recently bought my alfa card(rt3070), so far its working and im very happy, but due to the stock 5 dBi antenna its range is so limited. That's why im planning to produce my DIY long range antenna inspired by the pic below.(30 dBi or higher)
as of now Im doing intensive research and started ordering equip. online

primary materials:
-wire mesh
-coax cable (w/ adapters needed) 1 meter
-10 meter usb cable
-my Alfa card
Question: Have anybody done this type of project, how's the performance so far? any suggestions plz (=
BTW im so excited about this project' I can't wait any longer

Throw out the alfa, it sucks.
I had quite a few and never really had stable connections.
 :-X
They break.

If you don't care about spending a couple bucks I suggest you go for a router board.
If you want to do something cool buy a mikrotik board.
Something like this:

You'll need to add a PCI wireless card yourself,.
Flash openWRT or some other open OS on it and work from there.
You can have wireless tools installed on it or whatever.
Get some Atheros based chip.

That was an eye opener, thnx mate (I owe you a  can of beer)

Indeed I believe atheros makes the best wireless card in the world.

I'll look into buying a router board soon, x-mass is coming
But for now ill just test it with my alfa

BTW proxx, does this haave the same concept with famous hacking gadgets such as reaver pro and wifi pineapple mark 5?

Well basically yes it is the same idea.

Spent sometime reading through the documentation... ;D ....sir
A used router w/ openwrt is definitely a perfect alternative to a router board which is relatively expensive in my country.

On the other hand used routers are abundant hehe, still searching for a good bargain.Btw I'm very excited about this project, the possibilities are endless. :o

Whats the final plan once you have built it and its all up and running? ;)

hmm  ;D  perhaps proceed stalking beautiful women in my neighborhood (I'm not good looking and all)

It had been my dilemma ever since, I always wanted to extend my range and yet I don't want my rooftop to look peculiar/suspicious hmm. :-[

May I ask how you guys solve this problem?

You have inspired me to do the same.

Good to here that sir ;)
I'll post a pic as soon as I have finished this project.

I'm using an old alfa (awus036h) with a directional yagi antenna on a tripod. The antenna is located at a window with the blinds closed, so no suspicious structures visible from the outside. Also and IMO, parabolic dishes on rooftops are not suspicious, since most buildings have them.

I just run it from by bedroom window my current one is approx 18dBi but I want a 25+

Stability above power.
Beginners mistake is to think that more Watts is beter, its not.
Fucking around on some network is no fun when you have connection drops all the time.

sir what do you suggest?

Basically saying, a stable connection is much better, don't worry about power at the moment, read some books on the topic, thee might be some in the ebook section, not too sure :P

sir what do you suggest?
Think I kinda did below :)
A proper miniPCI wireless card in either a board or laptop/pc will provide exactly what you need.
the AWUSXXXX is just a fucking toy, fuck realtek.

It needs some adjustment but besides that it's good.
