: Microsoft Fighting for Privacy, whaaaa??
: madf0x December 22, 2014, 07:56:29 PM
Saw this link pop into my feed a few minutes ago, thought it was highly interesting:

Everyones hated cash grabbing company is in a court case against the US gov, arguing that data they hold off shore are outside the FBI's jurisdiction. Gov is arguing that american sent the data, and is stored by an american company and being accessible by that company falls under some Stored Communications Act regardless of the servers physical location.

Thought it was surprising cause it runs contrary to how we tend to believe most companies deal with privacy. On the other hand, had to remind myself that this is the same company that has been under fire multiple times by antitrust laws, any chance they can get feds to GTFO their business is good for them, more so if they can pull in some good PR.

any thoughts or additional info?

Might be a clever trick to get people to trust them more...

Pretty much what I was thinking. If they cared about security and privacy loooong ago.
But you know, you gotta hand it to them. They are putting on a good show...

If their good show means we get a court precedence thats limits FBI jurisdiction(back to ya know, their actual jurisdiction) then Im all game.

Then heck I can probably go around for a few years quoting this case to skids to convince them they can just go through some european crap and 'the man' cant get them. Then laugh when they fall off the radar.

Win-win-win-lose-lose situation in my books.

Lol, makes me laugh.
The whole controversy surrounding skype is an awesome example.
This does however sound like good marketing, a cruel joke :P

Something else that made me crap my pants where the people that raged over the 'whatsapp blue marks' they called it ; 'invasion of privacy'
Maybe it is just me but everyone who uses a facebook service and says 'privacy invasion' must be fucktarded to begin with.
