: Evilzone attacks
: Stackprotector December 26, 2014, 07:54:57 PM
Hello there,

Sadly our network has been disturbed by our once beloved member connection/noncetonic (his real identity is easily find able). There are some issues regarding the whois settings of the domain which we cannot change quickly, but our once beloved member thinks it's good to attack evilzone if we do not fix every security issue there is.

So let's all thanks noncetonic/connection for attacking (dos/ddos) our network (Website and possibly the irc) on Christmas for god's sake.

Also let's remember him for his stupid actions against evilzone on a christmas evening, and not his good will on making evilzone a better place (which he had but he fucked that up).

Evilzone will remain and we are working on a better home for you all :) For those who do not agree nor are in for debate please find the door.

Have a nice holiday and a happy new year's eve :)

I didn't attack the IRC :(. It's also not Christmas, it's the day after o.O.

Also, when someone gives you a week to login to your registrar and update your whois information (something that takes 5 minutes at the most) and you still don't do it, it's not hard work, it's laziness.

As log as it is just DDOS attacks, i might forgive. Having any of his packets reach any EZ databases will be unforgivable.
Funny enough i was thinking, what happened to noncetonic? Seems he never comes to the forums any more now....

Well, if the issues aren't too critical, then let him wait them out till the time comes for them to be fixed rather than forcing you to fix them when it ain't possible yet.

And wtf happened to your post count @noncetonic? Or is it just me that remembers you having more post!

Kenjoe, I mass RM'd my posts and topics :O. I hang out on IRC a lot. He says DDoS but it's really just a very simple DoS from my phone of all things. Evilzone servers are just kinda crap :(. Happy Holidays everyone.

Btw we voted on IRC to keep DDoS'ing the site in order to keep IRC alive so if you can read this you might wanna get on IRC

We can't simply login to the registrar and change the whois. Also, in the Netherlands we have 2 Christmas days. And I am on a Christmas party right now.

There is also no DNS lock on the domain but I won't even get into the fact that DNS Locks have been around since the 90s...

Just to be nosey, what exactly is happening to noncetonic? You evilzone administators have the means to track them and find their real identity. Is noncetonic in any wrong doing with the law? or are you just dropping this one? I'm just curious about how this will all end.

Noncetonic is not secret about his identity. And we will not pursue him, unless he we had big damage and it would cost us much.

So why did noncetonic DDOS the site? Did he have a reason or was he just being an ass?

The whole incident went a little something like this:
"Should I DDoS evilzone?"
"Lol I bet you wont do it fgt"
"Watch me lol"

Of coarse im summarizing and leaving quite a bit out but no he mostly did it for shits and giggles. We all had a jolly laugh on IRC about it. Good times, nevar 5get.

Its an Attack! No wait, its only a service disruption. No harm, no foul.

Would be good to get as much information as you can out to members that you value about the integrity of EvilZone.  I'm sure anybody who invests as much time as you guys do in EZ would be comforted to know just how secure their playground, community and most importantly their information is.

I'm not saying that you should release all information about the security of EZ but "laying down the law" may be a good starting point.

I've only just joined and hate to impose so if I'm out of line, don't hesitate to tell me but I think this is a good opportunity to make an example of an apparently very childish individual because frankly, reading this thread as well as staff responses is encouraging me to have a poke around (I won't).  Especially when the perpetrator is still online, able to access EvilZone and argue his case in front of any member that wishes to take an interest.  It's your project.  Your members should trust you but also understand that your word is final.

Under these circumstances it is perfectly reasonable to assume that you aren't punishing because of fear - you are scared to take action because of what you think he may do in retaliation.  This is not the way I feel about the situation, I'm merely attempting to put things into perspective.  I understand that there are clearly more in depth contributing factors that you're not ready to release to the populous of EZ, but as much information as possible will put minds at ease.  Mine at least.

That's my input, based on the little information I have.

Its an Attack! No wait, its only a service disruption. No harm, no foul.

Denying service is an attack.  Of course there is harm present.  Evidently, however - there seems to be no foul.

Uh no dawg lol this is noncetonic. He REALLY didn't do it out of real harm. And lmao the staff are not acting out of fear, they are acting because hes a FRIEND.

Cause thats what it really is, just a prank of sorts amongst friends. He doesn't post on the forums often, he's an IRC regular.

In the end we believe that most harm that's been done is your own fault. Also, we are not going to sue somebody for something that he did wrong while we could have done the same. His intents are good, his actions were bad. He's been on this community longer than i can remember :)

It's a while since the attack, I wasn't even here. But it surprises me to read that ez is taken down by their own member. I thought the pros warned about weaknesses, but never exploited them. But it is somewhat nice to see that the admins just pokes at the evildoer and boooes, instead of in the heat permabans or calls the police. That would've been MY annoyed, noobish, scared response, at least. Had an aha! moment here.
