Many of us use Adblock to disable annoying flashy, pop up advertisements, for basically every website we visit. For the past few years, the use of Adblock has been on the rise like crazy. Take a look at this Statistics for Adblock Plus. (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/statistics/usage/?last=30)
Honestly, I don't know where I stand on this subject. Because the more people use it the less revenue website owners make, which can be an issue in the future don't you think?
Imagine, if websites started to charge you money to view certain information?
-
People use Adblock to stop viewing stupid clutter, absolutely no one likes it. We shouldn't have to suffer just for having our right to view information. Many websites make revenue with ads as a bonus, not so much a source of primary revenue. These website hosters need to understand that if people are going to use Adblock then they have fucked up on their business decisions.
We are technically charged for most of the information on the web. We pay in information, everywhere you go websites are tracking you. They won't make money by charging access, because some one out there can do it for free, so they won't make money there either.
Within time, ads will die. they'll find more information to sell and the industry will remain continuous.

I think it is immoral, abhorrent and unacceptable to pray on weak people by forcing brainwashing down their necks.
I haven't watched TV for about 15 years due to my intense hatred of Ads.
People who make Ads should kill themselves, no really, fucking do it.
No but really, this whole field exposes exactly how fucked up and ignorant we are as a species.
We are willing to cannibalize ourselves for some imaginary numbers on a piece of paper in our pocket.
So yes, I use adblock and I think every single person on the planet should.
They should put all the Ads on one channel so if anyone wants they can switch over. lol.
FUCK advertisers.

I totally agree with you. Advertisements are the #1 reason I don't watch TV anymore.
Adblock Plus really saved my life on the internet too, and everyone I encounter not having it installed, gets told to do so.
If there are any website owners, who's only revenue is from ads, I won't feel sorry for him/her.

No, Adblock sucks. They should use uBlock instead:

I don't really see the benefit in that? Adblock Plus + Disconnect or Ghostery = win!

Plus uBlock is much more polished IMO, like how host-style blocking rules are supported and popular filter lists are already listed in the filter list settings page.

Awesome. Looks much better on CPU/Memory usage and they allow multiple block lists. Uninstalled ABP and installed uBlock.
Also what Fur said about ABP allowing business to pay them to unblock ads, that is disgusting. Also open source.
10/10
Thanks +1

Adblock is a memory hog and slow compared to uBlock. uBlock + Privacy Badger + https-everywhere + Self-Destructing Cookies = win!

You probably shouldn't read the ebooks that are hosted on this site without paying for them either...
Or pirate movies for torrent sites....
Or skip commercials on youtube...
Or any number of other things that are established by the system to produce money...
But then again... I'm not really a "good" person... So fuck them and their adds. ;)

Okay, I'm convinced. I've changed to uBlock.

I am absolutely happy with this combo --> Adblock Edge, Disconnect, HTTPS Everywhere, FoxyProxy.
-
The next level of Social Networking Technology, will undoubtedly fix the ads-stress over the internet. This is why I can't help coding..

Ill just leave this here:

For the lazy fucks; this is about adblock allowing ads for the right price basically.
-
Yeah, fuck adblock, I noticed it didn't block MANY ads no matter what and it slowed down the porn pages. I switched to uBlock and I am very happy!

Bump. I wanted to say that ads are not that bad, ofcourse not all, but some are legit and it helps to maintain a website/have some revenue, on mobiles it helps developers have some income to support their work, they don't invade anything and just display ads... admob is probably the biggest network which I use as well in some of my apps and I tell ya that extra 40euro/month doesn't go to waste.
Same goes for websites - ofc no one likes the penis enlargement bullshit lol, those should be blocked, but legit advertisements shouldn't be completely blocked. And someone said that if the website needs ads to stay up, they are doing it wrong? well not completely, as I said, the project could be awesome, but offering it for free ain't going to pay back the hosting and other expenses. People aren't willing to give a lot of money in donations unless the service saves their lives, ads help developers gather income to pay back some of the work and that's it.
-
I notice ads for the things I purchased only after I have already purchased the same item online.
WTF - Paying Comca$t for cable and I am still subjected to TV advertisements? How does that work?
The advertisers should be paying my cable bill if I am subjected to their advertisements.
Good looking out on uBlock. +1

That's not how it works. You buy a service of watching the TV from the Television provider (not counting other bullshit for smarttv and whatnot), nothing more. The channels that operate on the television are a whole different thing - they make money from TV shows and viewer ratings, however they also get paid to display ads. The bigger is the channel/bigger viewer rating, the more valuable ads they show.
So basically they shouldn't pay you, and you have no choice because there's no adblock for the TV and every channel you turn to (except for exclusively paid ones like Discovery Science or National Geographic) does it. I agree that everyone hates ads on tv tho :P

BAD doubleposter! anyway i just wanted to say real fast ive always hated any and all fucking popup ads, but just blocking pops had me happy...till the interent decided to plaster 500000000 per page. youtube is a great example of this, roughly 30 ad's blocked PER video. Its just absurd. Even then though, what finally made me go for the "fuck ads" of an adblocker, was when they started deciding to put video ads...on every fucking page. (not to mention before videos) i tend to have a TON of tabs open, and it gets really fucking old doing the "which tab has the ad playing" hunt every 30 minutes. so yeah. imo sites can fuck themselves on getting revenue through ad's, they abused the privilege.

There use to and rarely but sometimes still is some artistic integrity within ads. Selling products is obviously essential to our economy and small and local businesses advertisements don't bother me. Like those above me have stated, it's the abuse by fuck tards who created spammy and shity ads to further expand there local business destroying, monopoly-esque corporations that have led us to implement ad blocks. As with many things in society, the fair play of a few is eclipsed by the abuse of most. As a web designer, fuck it, I'll generate revenue on the quality of my work, not the click bait convoluting the aesthetics of the page.
-
I was wondering if there are any laws in any countries restricting certain advertisements to be displayed or the amount per page?
-
fuck adblock. ads such as adsense, admob and other harmless ad networks like them should be excluded from the list.
