After 4 long hours my laptop finally completed the upgrade. I think it is okay, however nothing special. I specifically enjoy the new search location and task bar.
What are your opinions of the upgrade?

4 Hours .... Ain't nobody got time for that....

Isnt it really Windows 8 SP2? Windows 8.2

I thought it would take like 40. Biggest waste of time.

It is windows, it'll take long anyway.
Try updating a freshly installed system , you can take the day off if you want to get it 100% patched incl office .net etc.
10 sounds flashy also where is 9 ?
I'll try it on some box just to get some glimpse ,as mentioned , I am not olbligated but it sure is useful for work.
More malsoft.

I'm just relating to the time it takes before being actually finished, after 1231 reboots etc.
I did like 20 boxes at once with some scripts all on the desk , I noticed some taking almost twice the time for no reason , the box was even OEM installed.
10 hours or more is no exception, corp fiber etc etc , the real toy's.

Lol, funny replies from EZ members, obviously we have people with good sense of humor. Anyway, I had this icon in my task bar for a while, that offers the opportunity to upgrade to Win 10 for free, I was confused whether to give it a shot or not,the desktop looks good but I'm not sure about the performance and security.

kulv as previously stated in irc, i have upgrade to windows ten, looks alot better then windows 8 if ur asking .
-
i like it because of the fact that old apps and games are compatible with it unlike the shitty 8/8.1
the new layout and design also looks sweet imo.

I heard that win 10 sends your data back to Microsoft. Maybe that is why it is a free upgrade. Either way, not getting win 10.

That was true for technical prewiew which logged everything but thats what technical previews are for. Not saying that isnt happening thought :P
-
And that is something new?
Reminds me of the german gov refusing to use win 2012 server and above.
quote by I dont remember *insert name* "The backdoor is so big you can drive a truck through it" or something along those lines.
Conclusion is pretty obvious, they are switching to linux iirc.

Well at least with Windows 8 I can choose to not send everything to Microsoft; However Windows 10 has major spying capabilities that can not be turned off. Also Cortana is creepy.
-
actually windows 8.1 was windows 9 as 8+1 = 9
and everyone who did an update should not forget to go trough the privacy settings! otherwise everything you type and speak will go to microsofts cloud and a lot more!

The keylogger and things where with the dev version, this public release has all that removed. It will however send usage and crash reports and anything like every other system out there does if you opt to. There is nothing different about 10 than there is about any other Windows release.
From what I've heard and read, it's not bad at all. It's what 8 should have been, a better version of 7. I will be trying it and getting the free upgrade before next year and the free goes away. I might even make a new partition on my laptop just to run it.
-
with my shitty internet connection, I guess I won't do the upgrade, I'll keep using 8 lol :p
Seems good though

Poor MicroSloth can't seem to get an OS right twice in a row since Win98 lol ME was horrible (imo?) XP ran great, Vista made Forrest Gump look like Einstein, <3 me some Win7, and Win8 was the dumbest shit ever (for regular PC users). I plan on upgrading my win8 box at the very least, probably my win7 box as well though. Been looking into the "free" upgrade offer trying to find the hidden "cost". TBH I'm half afraid a year from now when the upgrade is no longer free MS is gonna say it was trialware and make you pay for it lol.

I can't argue with stupid, so I'll let my voice be mute in the sound of ignorance. Try and have a good one loud stranger.

if you install windows 10 and then use the default settings check out what is activated. Keylogger and all that shit is per default on!
-
The upgrade is free for a year so just chill with the upgrade until many of the bugs have been fixed and people have had the time to find all the sneaky shit microsoft tries to force upon you.
And btw, they are offering the upgrade for pirated versions as well.. Don't, they haven't explained why they are doing so and you will most likely get "this is a trial version, plz upgrade if you wanna access your files" in a couple of months after they have caught most pirates.
-
I usually don't encourage using Windows, but I do like Windows 10. I encourage Linux usage because of it's versatility and pragmatism in design. I did the upgrade and for the sake of the argument most of the time was spent downloading. It took marginally longer than a Debian install once the image was downloaded.
Notable mentions:
New features for cmd.exe, better(quicker) application crash handling, and a retro-classic design for the desktop user interface.
-
Windows 10 has per default a lot of settings which are just wrong...
https://thehackernews.com/2015/08/windows-10-update.html
Go check your windows settings... it's like a smartphone, lots of wrong settings

When upgrading be sure to turn all that report to Microsoft shit off, literally a bunch of shit. Just remember, pirvacy has been gone long before this. I do have to say Edge isn't bad and its actually the best of windows 7 with touches of windows 8.1/8.2. It's one of the better OS's that can rival the awesomeness of Windows XP. If you have a Windows machine, just go for it. My grandma had no problem adjusting to the changes which means its actually easy to use.
Good job Microsoft, you did one right :-O
-
My only question now is how long before 7 isn't supported anymore ? Lol
-
For anyone who upgraded to W10 (including me)
I'd do this https://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/comments/3fhy27/how_do_disable_all_privacy_leaks_in_windows_10/

So I decided on NOT upgrading, but instead used the Windows 10 downloader to just create a mutli-arch ISO.
Installed it on a desktop.
At First Glance, its Fugly. Oh its soo fucking ugly.
Its so ugly, I would buy an older desktop just so it wouldn't be compatible with Win 10.
Oh and I see it they added multiple desktops... BFD.
If I can get this thing to remotely resemble Windows 8, then I might let it stay.
Did I mention the UI is ugly?
Check out the long list of bugs: (read comments)
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2952507/windows/windows-10-launches-with-its-fair-share-of-bugs.html
BTW - you can use Microsoft Toolkit 2.5.3 to KMS activate.

I finally upgraded my work pc . It only took about an hour including updates and turning all the crap off .
Surprised i didn't lose anything bookmarks saved passwords and so on..
I like the look and changes so far . want to change it to the dark theme tho.
-
I was really hoping for a "Windows 12X", sounds so much cooler. But I think it's because the open source community is so large that MS finally realized there are more open source users than commercial operating systems, therefore lets just end windows with a 10, and provide sufficient updates since general consumers as well as businesses can use open source operating systems, and modify them to meet their business needs. Although for gamers, graphic drivers are an issue but we're slowly getting there.
-
No, I still have 8 ;(
-
I upgraded. I haven't had it long enough to say how whether I like it or not but it will work until I decide what version of Linux I want to use.

What are your opinions of the upgrade?
My laptop was a prebuild windows 8 then went to 8.1. It lacked some stuff the average user would not notice or need. Wen my laptop upgraded 10 it was much better then windows 8 interface wise. Windows 10 still has some problems it stopped Woking a few times and lock me out once saying cortal is not available. There is also this thing going around about windows 10 can directly collect your data I think they do that already anyways but I don't know the facts.
Overall 10 is ok for a windows but it stills needs some work.
-
I installed it last week and i satisfied cause it works bit better than win 7 i had, plus some video games that i have after patches refused to work with my ati 7670m series and only used intel hd 4000. So for me evrything is fixed on 10.
-
If anyone is interested in "trying" to take back their privacy on Windows 10, I suggest you take a look at this: http://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10
-
Well, i had move to linux , i don't really like windows 10 .
-
I upgraded from 8.1 and am pretty content so far. No more stupid annoying blue Start panel, i hated that one very much. It handles crashes way better and it actually terminates processes when I tell him to do so. Except the privacy, things like sharing Wi-Fi passwords with friends (?) and few other minor things, I like it pretty much.
-
Went to 10.... a few days later went back to 7. ::)
-
I have actually been using Windows 10 for over 6 months (before official release).
I actually like it and would say to anyone running 8 and 8.1 today to upgrade,
( because if you think 8 och 8.1 is good you are first crazy and second wont be disappointed in Windows 10 which imo is far better then 8/8.1 )
Windows 10 is still a work in progress and you will notice that from time to time but whats the alternative?
8/8.1 are work abandoned imo, Microsoft rushed so much at Windows 8 that they never catched up even with the "upgrade" try of Windows 8.1... and then came Windows 10.
But there's also a lot of good things with Windows 10 imo, most of them making it easier for IT-administrators to deploy and manage (what i have noticed in my line of work).
I have to say I think Windows 10 runs even smother than Windows 7, they changed the look of a lot of things that made me furious in the beginning but I got used to them and have started to even like most the changes.
You might have to throw a tweak or two in but all in all drivers, software etc works flawlessly. You just have to give it a go the make up your mind for yourself.
Privacy is as always, turn it off by deleting files, services, registry keys etc. All the web is going the same direction of collecting your every fart and burp.
Honestly for me switching from Windows 7 to Windows 10; now i would never downgrade.
The upgrade part takes around 3 hours not counting the downloading part depending on hardware.
If you're deploying to multiple computers maybe sccm and/or mdt deployment would be worth looking at as it provides unattended deployments. A clean reinstall to Windows 10 with all patches, updates and software from referance image takes about 1 hour and 1,5 hour if you use USMT.
Yes Windows 10 is free for everyone having Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 until the summer of 2016.
And Microsoft said that Windows 10 will be the last OS, after that only updates to Windows 10.
Theres also rumors (or confirmed idk) that Windows will be "as-a-service" monthly/yearly subscription.
Buy honestly like every windows feature and version in the past this will be hacked providing ppl this for free im sure.
These are my 2 cents about Windows 10.
Cheers :)

I rather go back to windows XP than upgrading it to Windows 10.

Not sure if my installation worked 100%. Am I doing it right?
