If you can't think of ten that's fine.
All I can think of are
The Matrix
Halt and catch fire
I'm looking for more
-
Not my top 10 but some i remember
Hackers (from 1995)
live free or die hard
cybergeddon
sneakers
war games
blackhat
swordfish
algorithm
reboot
There are also alot of documentaries like code 2600 and so on just search youtube
-
You like halt and catch fire? Fucking stupid show.
-
Mr Robot
WarGames
The Manhattan Project (I consider this hardware hacking)
Sneakers
Weird Science (Not really "hacking" just a good movie)
Office Space(Minimal "hacking" just really funny)
-
Mr ROBOT
Who Am I no system is safe
-
Evilzone: The movie
I would watch that considering 50% is probably just porn.
-
i like who am i movie. it's kinda awesome to watch and learn in same time
-
Hackers
War Games
The 13th Floor ( not really hacking but kinda)
Blackhat
Mr Robot
Humans (depending on the way we're defining hacking but robots with free will I'll take it)
Serial Experiments Lain (anime but definitely counts)
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Lawnmower Man
Stein's Gate ( another anime but I couldn't think of another movie to fill out the list)
-
My fiction list:
- Hackers 2 Operation Takedown
- Antitrust
- Mr. Robot
- Tron: Legacy (2010)
- Chappie (Not technically hacking but robots and such)
None Fiction list:
- Def Con: The Documentary
- Hackers Wanted
- How Hackers Changed the World
- Revolution OS (My favorite out of any and all of them)
- Arduino the Documentary
-
How did I miss this thread?!? Thanks for the necro xD
Hackers
Takedown
Antitrust
Matrix Trilogy
Wargames (1 & 2)
Swordfish
Live Free or Die Hard
Spy Game
The Net (and 2.0)
Fanboys (not 'hacking' related, but as a star wars fan, a nice comedy)
Grandma's Boy (Stoner movie about video game testers)
That's technically more than 10, but I lumped some together (such as matrix, the net, and wargames) also the last 2 aren't 'hacking' but great for geeks.
TV is pretty much Mr. Robot and CSI: Cyber

I tend to hate any movie or TV show with BS CS/hacking, with very very few exceptions. It annoys me so much that unless you are doing basically EVERYTHING else amazingly i will focus to much on it and cant enjoy it. Also i should be clear here that i mean where MAJOR plot points regularly revolve around the use of computers and such if they seem to have done fuck all research wise it gets major major marks down from me.
So TV shows with hacking:
#1 Mr Robot -fucking love it.
#2 Silicon Valley - same
#3 Agents of Shield - they dont seem to understand how to turn on a computer by the dialog they use...but never the less everything else is spectacular and it gets a pass on it :P.
Movies:
#1:Operation Takedown/Trackdown/(i forget the 3rd name it ALSO goes by): probably the first movie to have genuine "realistic" examples of each area of "hacking" in one film. Even if the story its based on is blown way out of proportion etc and was a shitty thing for a number of people to do, the truth is its a well made film, with actual hacking.
#2: Matrix Trilogy: I mean they have fucking nmap in it. rock on.
#3: the girl with the dragon tattoo trilogy. (ORIGINAL! though the remake is rather well done so far) Also has nmap in it, lots of real world examples of hacking, and a rather fun plot too.
#4: Sneakers: not 100% on but still a well done flick
#5: tron
#6: tron 2 --both of these may not qualify in the truest sense, but earn their place for geekdom reasons.
As for deepcopy's list of documentarys/true stories i have to agree with that list almost in its entirety except for the last 2 havent seen them(but will soon!). They are by far the best ive seen of their kind.
oh and no one has a pr0n secion?!?!
haxXXors 1&2: Because its hacker porn. thats why. I dont care how intentionally bad it is, the info is actually well put together and the "actresses" are totally clueless. it makes for a fun mix. Also their is boobs.

rofl its late mistakes were made fingers were blamed you were pointed.

I consider these more geek movies, fun to watch. Totally fake and off basis sure, but fun to watch as a geek none the less. There not very many accurate representation of hackers in media. If that were the case only documentaries and Mr Robot come close.
-
Like others mentioned, hackers is a great movie to watch ironically. Another one I remember from a while ago was called,"spearfish" or something, basically this dude gets his dick sucked while he hacks into the DoD's servers with a gun to his head.

It's called swordfish and its with Haily Berry, John Travolta and Hugh Jackson or whatever his name is. Remember he 'programs' a cube thats supposed to be a polymorphic worm xD

my favorites :
Hackers (from 1995)
sneakers
war games
swordfish
algorithm
takedown
Primer ( more sci-fi )

algorithm was...alright, I say mr.robot is vastly better. I remember there's one scene where he is on a dell computer in a library, and its running OSX. Every fucking computer in that movie was a hackintosh. There was some other inaccuracies as well that mr.robot was able to cover that algorithm couldn't.
-
My co-worker recommended Mr. Robot to me once. I'll try to find some time to check it out when I'm not sleeping during the day.

source code-2011
untraceable-2008
firewall-2006
who am i no system is safe-2014

I like Mr. Robot , CSI: Cyber and Silicon Valley.
-
Wargames is really the only of it's type I found even remotely acceptable by film standards. At least in my opinion. I honestly found most of those movies so over the top ridiculously corny. But wargames was good. On the top of programming, The Social Network is also a good movie. Well made in my opinion. Jesse Eisenberg plays the arrogance well.
Wargames and The Social Network are two of my favorite movies.
-
I haven't 10 but there are mine:
Mr.Robot
Who Am I
Die Hard 4.0
Hackers
The Fifth Estate
-
I don't like watching hacking films I tend to get in my feelings and think I can infiltrate the government database while being on the run from Taliban leader cause I doxed him ;D
I will check those films out when I get a chance !
-
Movies about hacking always have their imperfections, so I just watch them for entertainment.
Movies and shows: millennium trilogy, matrix, Mr.robot, etc.
But in my opinion sci-fi movies can tell me more about the relation between technology and society.
Like: continuum, black mirror, dark city, 13th floor, Mr.nobody, Solaris(tarkovski), etc.
