Well from just learning about it from your post I have to say I am interested in others opinions as well. It is a puzzle game with probably only a a few various outcomes, it describes using real world hacks which would be interesting. Many reviews describe the story line to be very interesting and worthwhile. All in all for $10 I am definately going to check it out. Guarantee it wont be the worst $10 I have spent.

Dang, it looks really cool. At least somewhat realistic, not like other simulators. If someone tries it, share your experience :)

I downloaded a cracked version of it. It mentions somewhat realistic terms, like open ports, SSH, etc. But is otherwise extremely unrealistic. You click a button to hack into a server and do rm * to delete everything.

Hmm, I hoped for this to get harder and more realistic as you progress, how long did you play this game?

It's pretty terrible in terms of gameplay. The visuals aren't too bad, but there's not much replay value.
Also, once you've completed the missions, that's it, there are no more. Unlike Uplink where they keep coming.

Completed both paths in a few hours.
Even got in to the honeypot that traces you within a few seconds, nothing in there but the honey comb theme.

It was fun for a little bit, but the difficulty doesn't scale as you move on, it just gets repetitive.
6 / 10

I bought and played this with the foreknowledge that this game was going to be much like Uplink. I was not surprised that it was, and did enjoy it quite a bit honestly.

If you want more realistic games, I know there is a debugging game online that lets you 'break into' vaults but there's also TIS-100, which teaches a Form of Assembly code to rebuild a BIOS on a 'TIS-100' computer.

Loved the jokes in Hacknet leading back to both 1337x4 and Steve Jackson games.

In my opinion Hacknet is a very good game. It's the first game I have seen that introduces a command line interface so complete and some missions like the one with the pacemaker are quite original. It's not 100% realistic but when you are totally immersed it becomes very addictive. When you finish the game you would like to continue playing more missions. For people with IT knowledge can be a little disappointing because you would expect more commands but we have to give some time to the developer. Think that this game has been made by only one person. I think version 2 is going to add much more commands and it's going to surprise us for good. Also the muliplayer is coming and that is going to be awesome for playing with friends. Inspired by Hacknet and Uplink I am creating a videogame. My intention is to create a game more close to reality. I am using Packet Tracer as the base program. If you want to take a look watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpR4YxFPzD4 or visit my homepage learnpentesting.tk This game is totally free. I have created it only for entertaining and to keep up-to-date with hacking and networking techniques. Also I would like to hear suggestions from you and learn new things in order to enhance the experience. See you!  ;)

I only played a couple of hours of Hacknet but was quite disappointed. Cli is really bad, no pipelines, no command chaining, almost no commands, even the most simple commands like cd and ls are shitty. Your hacking is limited to less than 10 commands and always looks the same. You scan, you exploit with binaries, you collect new binaries (there are a couple of other things such as time limits, limited RAM etc. that make it a little bit more interesting but not that much).

Story is ok though and it is quite fun to read chat logs etc., they put some fun stuff in there.

Almost every contract is just nmap the ip, crack de 3 ports and send to the contractor, good at the beginning but boring after 1 hour.

I didn´t like it , it isnt a good game, it is annoying, repetitive , and pretty unrealistic ...

But well, was a good experience and it is not that expensive
