Sadly not many people outside of security seem to care about privacy these days. They'd rather get rid of all the damn terrerizers, and have cortana tell you that you forgot to take birth control and might be pregnant than have any semblance of privacy. Somewhat relavent xkcd (http://xkcd.com/1539/) that made me chuckle.
Seriously though it is hard to convey why these things (privacy/security) mattar to people that just don't care. I am friends with a CTO of a relatively large startup/vc firm in my area and his response to the whole Stagefright vuln, was "who cares, they can look at my pictures of me on a camping trip with the family". I think this is the general attitude about privacy (as well as the fact that your personal device that has all your personall info could be easilly hacked), I don't have anything to hide, so why should I care. Its frusterating. /rant

I have windows 8 on my laptop... Tethered my phone to my laptop. Went over data cap. Got charged $20. Found out windows automatically downloaded windows 10 onto my pc. Hence me looking up article then posting it here. Fuck Microsoft.

I think it just downloads some of 10 in the background but it don't just install it . u have to choose to install it

You can avoid it being downloaded to your machine if you don't install the updates that are *supposed to make upgrading to Win 10 easier*. If you don't want to install Win 10 you have no need for them, and along with shoving Win 10 to your face, they are also backporting some of the privacy invading shit to Win 7 and 8.
You can verify if you installed the updates by checking if you have this hidden folder in your system drive: $WINDOWS.~BT (this is where Win 10 gets downloaded to). If you delete it without uninstalling the updates, it will just get recreated.

@gray, how can one test when they have installed one of the "Backported tracking junk" onto your pc? This is the main reason I have opted not to upgrade, I thought it was just a natural install from Windows 10 only.
Where are those VPN's and Privacy sites, need to start subscribing.

Just switch to any distribution of Linux! Although, Windows 10 is great besides the privacy issue everyone should be concerned as too why is it being forced. You can also join the others and use a pirated version on 7 or 8.......

If you have facebook(even if you do not post anything there), and you hangout with friends which took a lot of fotos and post it or just tag you as company somewhere you already lost your privacy. That part with information gathering with win10 from M$. Daily I use win10 for work and I don't have anything to hide on it(of course I switched of all that shit which was sending info to M$ which I could). I do not live in country where my secret service spy on citizens, they are faggots and don't have money on it :D I just don't buy it. If I want stay anonymous with something I just switching on VM with linux and use all that power of TOR, porxychains and vpns. Mayby somewhere else like Murica, Britain or Germoney, you are scary of this shit. And if I have any secrets, I keep it far away from computer connected to the net. That is just only my opinion.

Yep, agree with everything you just said. I just hate when people use a vpn, run tor, and avoid facebook and google, but still use windows. If you care about privacy use tails. /:

To all the people talking about how they can't use Linux because there are not apps for X: you can still dual boot and use Windows for programs which you haven't replaced yet and keep all your other data on Linux. You will quickly find ways to replace programs and even if you don't at least you don't have to knowingly store your personal documents, passwords, certificates etc. on a backdoored OS.
