I'm wondering how truly anonymous/hidden I am.  Can someone point me to how to test myself and my connection?

Is it worth using Tor anymore?  are there better alternatives to http proxies?

I'm on Windows. Just like seeing how well I can secure it.

To find out how much google knows about you (more or less), just do simple searches for your nickname, name, email, phone number. To test proxies you use go to IP checking sites, they usually tell you whether that proxy is transparent or some other type.
And TOR is pretty reliable.

Move to a different platform?

You leak massive amounts of data, browser, OS, flash, java etc etc
Not to mention trackers, 'cloud accounts' with a vage privacy policy ( anything U.S. based  is fucked anyway).
I suggest you start reading here and come back with less stupid questions.
(stupid including everything that has been discussed at great lenght, search first.)
