: Troubleshooting help needed with new build
: DerpyTurtle November 22, 2015, 11:21:32 PM
So I am troubleshooting a friend of mines new build. I have not been able to get the machine to POST yet. Everytime I power it on I get 5 beeps. Which I am aware is a processor error. So I happen to have the exact same processor in my tech machine. So I swap processors between the machines and my machine is able to POST just fine with her processor but her machine does not POST with my processor. I told her it seemed like the motherboard might be the culprit so we RMA'ed it and once she received the new one we tried again with the same outcome. I even tried removing her graphics card and that actually changed the beep code to 1 long and 2 short being a GPU error. I also tried using just a single stick of memory in slot 1 and that didnt seem to affect the outcome. I have also tried with memory that I know to be good and still no change. I have tested everything I can think of. Does anyone have any ideas? I can provide more technical info if needed.

RMA the CPU.

What's the model of the motherboard and the cpu? Assuming you have everything connected properly, it sounds like the motherboard simply doesnt support the chipset or whatever your cpu uses.

I second motherboard incompatibility, but it isn't over yet. What exactly is included in the build? Gimmie yo parts list

More specifically give us a pcpartpicker (http://pcpartpicker.com) list.

heck it'll probably point out any compatibility issues you have before you can even give us the details :)

"exact same processor" if its the same processor one works the other doesnt, its not a chipset problem, his processor either got shocked while putting it together or was DOA to start with.

You misread the post, the processor in question worked fine in his machine, both processors failed on the machine with issues. Ergo, the processor is not the problem here, either the motherboard is, or some unrelated issue is.

oh shit so i missread it. rofl. #smooth. yeah in that case it does expand what could be wrong, including the PSU not putting out proper voltage to the MB. So yeah either swap a different PSU into the system or the whole setup mb/processor to yours. My bad on that.

I'd try a different PSU you know works, make sure everything's connected properly, still doesn't POST time to get a new motherboard

Unfortunately seems like he hasn't logged in for almost a week now, so sounds like the mystery of exactly what was wrong shall stay a mystery to us.
