My question is not directed at the analyst specifically but rather on general safety.My friend has infected windows vista laptop.I want to get the virus onto a flash drive then transport on to my network..Once that is done I want to safely place into a secure virtual environment so I can then begin to analyst it.

What is my next step?

Well, I had made a descent manual for beginning virus reversing on my blog some time ago here: http://newage.ql.lt/blog/?p=82
But it's in my language (Lithuanian) so I don't know if it will be of much use. You might try using Google translator...

Apart that, I don't really know what to suggest. Guess just grab the tools I wrote in that tutorial and start messing around.
