Avast! Kaspersky or Malewarebytes?
Being that all of these are free and have decently high detection rates while maintaining low false-positive rates they all seem like good AVs. Although, I imagine many of you have no AV and do the detection and removal yourselves.
Discuss.

Avast and Malarebytes are good combination.
-
Avast!, when I fix up computers, clean them up or what have you. I always put avast! on it. I swear they have so many registrations with my email they haven't offered me a job! xD
-
Avast is my preference. I've heard many people recommending Kaspersky.
So I guess Malewarebytes is mainly run alongside some other AV it seems.
-
Hmmm I'll start by saying that MalwareBytes is not an AV, it's a virus scanner, not at all the same thing, as it doesn't has any Real-Time protection, being it USB, Browser, Ports or anything.
Then I must say I don't like any of those AV's you mentioned, Kaspersky full suit is ok as it has a nice combo and where the AV fails, the Internet suit covers, so it's very complementary, although it's no match against other AV's like AVIRA.
Personally I like ESET and AVIRA as they both have a very good detection rate for old virus(Reached 97+% in at least 2 tests)
However I would say AVIRA is slightly better as it is not based on string detection or other static methods, but more of an heuristic method, which is why when you crypt and bind stuff only 2/3 AV's are able to detect it, AVIRA being one of them.
But even tho everyone likes to speculate I like to base myself on facts so here it is for everyone:
AV-Comparatives has all kind of tests to all major AV's, including SafeGuard(Qihoo) which seems to be going on well right now, but I will let you take a look at it.

Malware Bytes is a good tool to remove some virus, being based mostly on registry scan.
HiJackThis! is good to manually detect virus that aren't detected by the AV, as it only produces as log with every process open, the source, registry, etc...
Good luck choosing yours.

What I use is Linux and common sense for Windows. Although I don't recommend this for everyone, because I know what I'm doing :P
-
You can use NOD32 +Tnod(automaticly find new keys) and some good firewall like commodo.

I am sorry. But antivirus's are

Lol I figured that would be the majority answer. Anyway, I agree what's the point of having a program for protection if it doesn't protect you. Knowledge is a much better defense.

in my opinion, kaspersky is good. avast is great. and unless you have the full version of malwarebytes, its just a tool for removal after infection. none will absolutely prevent infections tho. just dont open silly emails and go to silly places on the internet and you're probably best off with avast as a AV ;)
-
At my work we usually run both hitman pro and malwarebytes

You're the one who recommended those to me and Hitman pro has worked flawlessly for me. I haven't needed to use malewarebytes but it's a great program.
Actually I was wondering about the thirty day trial for Hitman pro it seems as though you can just download it again to start the trial over is this true?
-
lol, pretty much. Kinda a stupid system, but yeah, just re download it.
Be careful though, malwarebytes will sometimes catch things hitman pro doesn't and vice versa. Then again, malware bytes has never found tracking cookies on an infected comp, but can sniff out hijackers faster than hitman pro
-
Haha how silly. :P
So I guess they're good complimentary systems to each other. If malewarebytes was as fast as hitman pro I'd say malewarebytes takes the cake. I can delete cookies for myself, nonetheless, I do like Hitman pro.

Maleware removal is good enough for me. Don't get me wrong viruses aren't a problem I am pretty confident in my ability to avoid the giant green download button offering me a "Free PDF Converter!!!." Thanks for your opinion though I'd definitely agree with you on Avast! ;D
