Hey, I've just recently started using Ubuntu, I am using version 11.10 right now.
I was wondering about security on Linux, how can I be secure on Linux?
I searched it up and found out about Squid and transparent proxies, but I dont know if I should use that or if that is just for servers?
So how do i stay secure online, should I be using a proxy, how I Portect miNe LINUX OS???!!?

I messed around with Oneiric Ocelot for awhile. I have the new LTS beta 2. I like the new ubuntus but I fucking hate unity. Which is why I'm using gnome classic....sorry off topic. Anyway, have you looked into Proxychains? Here's a link if you care to investigate (http://proxychains.sourceforge.net/howto.html)

If your new to linux you will be glad to hear (or already know) you wont need an antivirus, keep updated it should notify you of any updates needed.
Tor is a good way of being secure ("proxy-wise") on windows and linux.
watch what ports you have open. maybe scan yourself on nmap to see what others can see?

I use linux alot and never once been hacked (I hope).
