(-2^2)=4 or -4?
-
-4 in the people world. And ¦-5¦ in the realm of or imaginations. Numbers are brought on by man to understand the outside world. They can be anything we want, all arbitrary.
-
I don't get it?
-
it's 4

(-2^2)=4 or -4?
it is definitely -4
Reason , since the power is not outside the bracket the negative sign is not squared therefore the answer is -4.
if it was like this, (-2)^2 then the answer would have 4

This is right.

I don't get it?
what is the resolve of (-4^2)
square of -4
what do you think is the answer -4 or 4?
-
I don't get it too. The answer is not difficult and not a matter of opinion unless you take it like techb.
-
lol I always tho that (-2^2) was 4 but it is -4 :P just wanted to see if you also tho the same

Another definition, since A^2 = A*A then (-2^2) is like (-2*-2) = 4 .
-
-2^2 is 4. With or without brackets. Negation has preference over exponential. If it was -(2^2) it would be -4. That's all, and I am kinda surprised.
Derp. See Deque's next post.

Your order of precedence is not the one used in mathematics. Some programming languages and programs may have an unary minus that has a higher precedence than exponentiation, but that is not something a mathematician would do.
Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_operations#cite_note-2
The order of operations, or precedence, used throughout mathematics, science, technology and many computer programming languages (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Programming_language) is expressed here:[2]
terms inside parentheses (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parentheses) or brackets
exponents (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exponentiation) and roots (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nth_root)
multiplication (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiplication) and division (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Division_%28mathematics%29)
addition (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Addition) and subtraction (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subtraction)
In written or printed mathematics, the expression −32 is interpreted to mean −(32) = −9

MFW I was wrong. Last maths I studied were logic propositions, so yes, I was confused. I deserve more than -9000, sir.

this is what i explained in fewer lines ;)
to All:
why you people are still discussing since the right answer has already been posted :O

I know that you did, but obviously a lot of people didn't believe it.
