So I've been at this for a day now and I can't seem to get things working myself and haven't really been able to find anything online that would be able to point me in the right direction...
While using Gerix or Airmon I'm not getting anything to come up for my interface. I'm thinking it's an issue with my wireless card compatibility, though I'm also pretty sure that my card is compatible after looking up a few compatibility lists online.
If anyone is able to give me some advice in the next steps to take it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm using a D-Link DWA-552 Desktop PCI Adapter with BackTrack 5 in VMware Workstation.

If you're using VMWare, you'll need a USB wireless adapter as opposed to a PCI card. This is mentioned on the Backtrack website;
Any virtualisation software can only use USB wireless network cards as physical devices, all other types of wireless card are seen as virtual ethernet devices and can only be seen as a wireless device by the host and not by the guest operating system. So if you want to run BackTrack in VMWare or Virtualbox and have full wireless capabilities, make sure you are using a USB device.
For USB wireless adapters, I recommend this one;

Hope this helps! :)

Thank you Praxis, that helps a lot. That's actually the card I was looking at getting as well.
Much appreciated.

No problem bro! Make sure you order the card which comes with the window suction cradle thing, you can stick the adapter to the window in your car and wardrive with it :D

I've got a Linksys ae1000 that works great. Like Praxis said vmware makes you use usb.
Once you have the USB device when you load VMware, just use the Virtual Machine dropdown, and select removable devices, and select the correct device and hit connect. Then when you use airmon-ng it should show up. :D
