I talked about this with Kulverstukas on irc earlier today, but I have a serious alcohol problem, and I'd like to regain control of my life. The first time I got drunk was when I was 12, and I started doing it every weekend when I was 17. This has carried over into my adult life, and it's become much worse over the past year. I currently experience the following, and I know it's because of my drinking problem:
-Insomnia
-Shakes in the mornings (this just started happening within the last couple of days)
-Mild depression
I've been late to work on numerous occasions, and I've even not shown up at all once because of drinking the night before (luckily my bosses have let it slide thus far). I talked with one of my friends from work today about it, and he said a lot of people at work have been talking about me and alcohol. I just really need your guys support while I start to get back in control. Anyone got any advice for me, or have had experience with this before? I really don't feel good about myself right now. :/

There is this resource:
http://www.reddit.com/r/alcoholism
Reddit is not just a place for memes, funny pics and cats. You can get great advices with it. There is a list of links in the right that may help.
One other think. I heard about Alcoholics Anonymous. I don't know if you can seek that out but I always heard it helps a lot.
I think you can also try to see a doctor or psychologist. Alcoholism is a problem that usually requires help this kind of help.
Good luck with this!

Do you want to quit or just slow down? I have helped people do both.
Addiction is all phycological, that is my expertise. If you are really serious and really want help, shoot me a PM. I can help you.
Please keep in mind though, I can only help you if you seriously want help.

Ok... so here is it... My mom is a doctor and I asked her about it... and here is what she said..
No one can leave alchohol or any addiction in one day...
First you should try and Halve the amount you drink... do not try to stop drinking altogether
strictly halve the amount for 15 days.. and keep your willpower strong
Next quarter the dosage... and so on... There is no medicine to force you out of the habit... that much you already know.
If this does not work you should go and seek professional help, there is no way out of it. visit some drug abuse center. They will do the same thing, first halve the dose then quarter it and so on. But it usually hurts the persons pride and confidence if they visit such a place.
As for the shaking, try stop the drinks and if it does not work then there are medicines to stop the shaking, consult some doctor for them.

Alcoholic addiction is not all psychological. Not in more advanced forms. I had a roommate in rehab that had a seizure after withdrawing from alcohol for only a few days. Not to worry you m0rph you aren't at that stage. Aside from getting counseling/therapy/AA I would say to try and keep yourself busy with other things that are fun. Keep distracted. It sounds like you are one of the people who can't stop once they start. I might recommend not drinking for awhile as having even one might trigger you to drink the rest of the night. Although, if you are having morning shakes then perhaps you should consider medical help. Alcohol is the only substance(besides benzos) that can actually kill you from withdrawals.
Again, not to worry you.

i used to be addicted to a few drugs but i started going to a support group and i got sober, support groups are amazing, if you dont want to go to one because its at a church and everyone is always gonna be talking about a god that you dont believe in (this was my case) just dont worry about it and go anyway, in my opinion people that care about you supporting you is the best way to get sober even if for the sole purpose of not wanting to look like a douche

Well everyone, I spent the equivalent of $800 usd on drinking + shenanigans this weekend.
@petermlm, thanks buddy
@hanorotu, idk man...I want to be able to drink a normal amount. I was trying to keep track last night, and earlier today I saw that I wrote down 15 shots, 7 screwdrivers, and 4 jack and cokes, and then I stopped counting. My end goal is to be able to stop at 5 or 6 drinks max for one night.
@IFailStuff, that is a really good idea especially since my gym membership for this year is still valid. I'm in Japan :/
@LuciD, I recall one of those girls that walks around with a tray of shots getting mad at me once because I was eye-balling her tray, and not her. Then I bought 3 and drank them on the spot. Today, just a couple of beers.
@smo, thanks for the advice man. actually, thank all of you. <3 I love you guys

lol sorry man, almost all of those are on a small island about 1000 miles south of where I'm at. And they're on american military bases. but no, I think the biggest dumbbells I've seen were 40kg. however, there's not a lot of body builders at the gym I go to, so hardly anyone lifts those.

lol m0rph, you didn't tell me you're in Japan :D
I hear weird people living there...
