: Best programming language to start with?

I was wondering what would be the best programming language to learn first. I have heard that you shouldn't start with C or C++,
i have been told that you should start with Perl, Ruby or Python.

Any recommendation is useless unless you tell us, what you want to do (what kind of programs).
You might also look for answers in similar threads, this has been discussed several times.
