Now normally I wouldn't come to Evilzone to ask a technical issue question, but after trying Google for days and some forums to no avail I decided that perhaps I'll ask here where my friends are. So here goes..
A few days ago I tried to play a movie on my computer while connected via HDMI cable to the TV. I could see the picture just fine but there was no sound. I went into the control panel to the sound section and took a look at the playback tab. I have two devices:
Speakers
Realtek High Definition Audio(Default Device)
Digital Audio (HDMI)
High Definition Audio Device(Not plugged in)
Well there's the problem.^ I tried setting it to the default device but the Set Default button is not highlighted. I go to the properties and next to device usage it says Enabled. It also says that the device is working properly. I attempted to update the driver but it says that it is all up to date. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver as well. No dice. I also went to the Asus website(I have an Asus K53E) and downloaded the most recent sound driver, and the chipset just to be thorough. I installed the drivers but still...nothing. Finally I asked around on forums and googled my problem but no answer seems to help. I am 98% positive that the output jack is not broken. This is a new pc and it worked before I reinstalled windows.
Oh I forgot to mention. A little while ago I had completely blown away my Windows install and did a fresh reinstall with a dvd I created. I had to install absolutely all the drivers and the Intel chipset by getting them off of the Asus support website on another computer and uploading them to my computer using a USB. So perhaps that's where the problem lies. I'm not sure though because in the device manager everything is installed, up to date, and supposedly working properly. With no ideas left I turn to you Evilzone.
EDIT: Win7 64bit btw

Not sure what to tell you, but did you try with other systems? Boot up a live cd and see how that goes.

Hmm, will do. I really hope I didn't permanently disable my computer from being able to play on a TV. That would be really disappointing. I want my computer to be perfect!

Ok, so on my TV i have the cable for the TV and the PC, and another audio cable which should be plugged in PC/HDM 1 Audio O.
See if there's some other cables you should plug in.
And another thing, why don't you watch movies like I do, through the USB.
My TV supports almost every video format plus recognises subtitles.
You can play: .mp4, .mkv, .avi, .wmv.... encoded video formats like h.264(x.264) etc...
Can't think of anything else I can help you out with.

Ugh I broke my computer. Fuck. I suppose the only thing I can do is call Asus support people or something. I can't believe that installing the sound drivers doesn't work.
