Hello, I am using Backtrack on Virtual Box on Ubuntu. in backtrack only LAN (eth0) connection shows.. there is no wireless connection (Wlan0)... in ubuntu i cant work on both connection.. can u tell me how to change setting for enable wifi in Backtrack...

i have test my connection in Terminal using "ifconfig" command..

Is your Internet not working at all? I believe that is how virtual machines work with a virtual lan connection to your host box which gets you your access.  If you're looking for straight wireless connection straight from your backtrack...you might be able to try unplugging your adapter (if possible) and plugging it back in and have it connect to your backtrack box instead of your ubuntu host.

you cant use backtrack to hack a network whilt it is in a virtual box, becuase it has no access to any network that the host is not connected to.... you'll have to boot it up from a pendrive or a cd 8)

No. Backtrack from a VM does not have access to onboard hardware, except for USB thingies, so using a USB wifi dongle would be good.

What they said :). You are better off running backtrack I have found either as a dual boot or a live cd so you can crack networks. VM's are great for setting up personal labs but not for cracking wifi.

exactly.... u have buy wifi dongle... buy recommended dongles for backtrack coz any won't work with it...:)

Not entirely true, most will work, but it's entirely dependent on if there are linux supported drivers that are compatible with the hardware (broadcom anyone? god I hate that shit).

Broadcom user here. Went through hell to get it working on my Ubuntu...
