My best guess would be that he wants to clone the phone like "Titanium Backup" does on the rooted android phone.

Hmm. Interesting, did some googeling and I believe you are right. (http://lazybit.com/index.php/2009/10/05/how-to-clone-a-sim-card-not)

But I really have seen this been performed, some hardware crap and software that cracked something and it tok about 4 hours. Ill try to recap what/where/when I saw it.

it was a sim from the early 2000 or 90's.. the new sims cannot be cracked.. earlier it was 32 bit encryption, now it is 128 bit and the algorithm is not cracked..

in earlier ones you leave the pc for 4-12 hours and the sim was cracked... these days the sim gets corrupted if you try to read it.

maybe some big govt agency can do that.. but afaik no one has claimed and proved that he can crack the sim.

Nokia 1100 made in a certain factory can be modified to spoof the victims phone number

If you're looking at cloning or changing an IMEI on a specific device you would need whichever Service Suite Software applies to the specific manufacturer. For example, older generation Nokia devices could have their IMEI's re-flashed and altered through the use of a tool called "Phoenix Service Suite Software" this tool is capable of all operator modding procedures, and was meant as an internal software for engineering and programming Nokia devices. Internal manufacturer service software often gets leaked and provides the end user a high capacity of functions and manipulations that can be performed directly through its interface.
