tl;dr - Higgs Boson discovered today by CERN scientists.

now i suck at science, so can someone explain to me what this exactly proves and how it helps us? all of that in 1 sentance please.

The way I understand it is that the Higgs Boson is the particle that gives other particles mass. Don't ask me how though, I am sure that the physics involved is way beyond what I have currently learned. Oh and it is supposed to prove (at least partially) the Standard Model of particle physics.

Supposedly the stem cell of particles?
What's going to happen next should be interesting.

in one sentence?

should we somehow harness it.. make use of it then we are gods.. there will be no limitations to what we can create...

although the discovery just furthers the standard model of universe people are trying to explain... although the model itself fails in several areas.

so..,? Does the Higgs have mass?! It gives itself mass?

it introduces mass to the universe

I thought it was the "God Particle", the particle they believe to have first started the big bang right? Because i know that rumor has it, that they have found it!!:D

I am pretty sure they called it the god particle because it was eluding them and they started referring to it as the "Goddamn Particle", and the media just shortened it to be politically correct.

I can see why it would be called the god particle because of creating mass all out of no where. I've heard about it a year or so ago, maybe longer, and they where getting close to finding it. I bet Stephen Hawking is beside himself with this discovery. I know he didn't find it, but I can see him with his autotuned voice telling everyone I told you so lol.

Hahaha seriously right! The wheelchair makes all the difference in the world!

The Higgs Boson is a very small particle that is part of the higgs boson Field, its effect can be represented by the fact that without it, proton, electron and neutrons wont stick together, it is like a syrup, everything is flying around wild and unstoppable, but when they hit the higgs boson field they slow down, and start sticking together, when they do, atoms are born, on which everything is based. they call it the god particle because without it nothing would could be made, and it is said that it would be everywhere

Really I think you have your facts confused.... What you're talking about ( the thing that holds neutrons and protons together and keeps electrons away) is actually the strong atomic force....My facts may be incorrect, but im pretty sure that it is called the god particle because is contains absolute evidence of the big bang.

actually you are correct.. though it is not absolute proof for big bang it certainly adds credence :)
