So i have this flash drive, 8GB and it was working perfectly untill the day it showed "Write-Protected". Dont say ask google 'cos i did and none of its methods worked...HELP?

I guess this depends on the flash drive. For memory-cards (SD) there is a small switch to write-protect the card. Could be the same with your flashdrive. If not, try to reformat it. If that does not solve your problem, try it on another system or another computer.

When i try to format it says dat it cant cos itz write protected

Boot up a *nix live CD and format it from there. Alternativelly boot up in a VM.

Indeed do what ande said. I just remembered that this might be because you have a virus on there that prevents you from formating the drive.

I inserted it into an Ubuntu 12.04 and when i tried to format, the screen distorted...

I inserted it while running Ubuntu on another system and instead of formatting...the system froze

weird stuff. Could it damaged in some way? maybe it was near a magnet or received a power surge? (very unlikely scenarios, but you can never know...)

I say trash the darn thing and get a new one, its like 10-25$ or something.
