What better use external hard drive or buy hard drive and case? I am thinking about 3tb :) And does cooling is needed for hard drive with case? Thanks for answers :)
-
I would buy a external hard drive. I bought a case to for old hdd's to have a look whats on it without needing screwdriver... lol. You should consider buying a network storage like qnap. They are very good but a bit expansive.
-
Why you think external hard drive is better? Plastic model cost same like hdd+aliuminium case :) and hdd is much faster, and about network storage, that useless for me, I dont have fiber-optic internet with 1gbps speed here :( only simple broadband with 60 kb/s upload :(

I talked about a hdd case with a network jack which you can use as nas (network attached storage) not an online storage. It depends on the chosen hdd and the rotations per minute and the interface of your case usb2, usb3 or firewire if your attachable storage is fast or not. You can get very good and fast as external hdd. But I agree that hdd+case may be cheaper. You also have the advantage to use your case with different hdd's. I think its a question of taste. I would prefer an external hdd ;-)

Any other opinions?

Depends on the type of connection you are going to use. Using 3tb, i would buy a solid eSata hdd who got some good reviews ;)

This might be a little out of the topic, but what would be the difference between an external HDD and an HDD with case?
I own two supposed external HDD's and I've opened those... to me these are HDD's with case. These are normal HDD's (SATA or IDE) with an interface inside a case. Both are metal cases, with mount screws. Both are USB, and both have their own power adaptor.

I agree with EmilKXYZ. It's all just storage. Hell, get fancy with it and have a 3D printed case, or make one from acrylic.
-
hell, if you wanna get cheap about it rip an old HDD out of a computer and use one of those cable thingies (cant remember the proper name of it, but i use them every week at work) to plug it into your computer. External Storage for the price of 2 cables. Good deal i say.
That said, i agree. those are both storage, I really like my external HDD but have never tried a HDD with a case (though that could be the same as what I was talking about above? We don't use a case though....lol)

Is it good choose?
THERMALTAKE RIVERII 3.5" SATA->USB/ESATA and
Seagate Barracuda 3.5'' 3TB SATA3 7200RPM 64MB is good choose?
-
Or mayby I should use WD Green 3.5'' 3TB SATA3 IntelliPower 64MB ,it has only 5400 rpm, that other model have 7200rpm them price is same, I think WD is better, but its slower, and does 7200rpm for external hard isnt too much? Mayby it get overheat?
-
I had the fortune to rip open my WD external HDD. It seems there is nothing serious in it - the same internal HDD in a case. So basically you can buy a case and a hdd separately and combine both yourself. Else you are just paying the same price + for the work it took to combine the two in a factory.
So if I had to buy a HDD now, I'd buy a case and a hdd, then put those two together myself.

Thanks for answer kulverstukas, but I already know what I want, I want case+hdd, 3TB external hdd with esata is damn expensive. Now I am asking what is better 5400 WD, or 7200 rpm seagate? I think that with 7200 rpm model is better.
-
Well 7200rpm is faster for sure.
-
I know it, but that 7200rpm is seagate, and 7200 rpm heat more I think :(
