I'm trying dual-boot Backtrack 5 R3 onto my computer with win7. I've downloaded the iso for BT and put it on a flashdrive and I'm trying to tell my computer to boot from it instead of my internal harddrive. My problem is even if I tell it to boot from the flashdrive it won't. I even went into the BIOS and changed the boot order so that it would try to boot from there first but all it does is just start up windows. I feel like I'm obviously doing something wrong so I figured someone here would be able to point me in the right direction.

What did you use to burn the iso?
-
Did you just copy the iso to the flash drive or have you followed the instructions on Backtrack Wiki?

^^same answer as above. But why install Backtrack, why not just use it from a Flash drive? I found Backtrack more unstable than other Linux distro's. Also with backtrack you get a shit load of tools, and you will never use the half of them(personal experience). Do not get me wrong I am not a hator on Backtrack, i do not just believe that it's ment to be installed besides or instead of ofther OS's.

Moved to "Operating system". Don't use Bold for font either, we can perfectly see as it is.
On topic: Kinda sounds like your computer doesn't support booting from a Flash drive (assuming you installed it properly to the flash drive).

If the OP still cares....
Make sure that you use UNetBootin to burn the ISO to usb. If you want persistence I recommend Linux Live USB Creator (LiLi)
Otherwise your computer might not support booting from usb....or you are somehow navigating the BIOS incorrectly.

sorry bout that Kulv, the bold is an old habbit from other forums.
Thanks everybody, I think it was the usb port. I after I noticed whatever I would plug into it would only work random I decided to open my computer and saw it was loose.

So this issue is resolved now?

yeah I got it, thanks.
