You type with both hand AND without looking at the keyboard? If not just look for a diagram of finger.positions. Then implement it and you will learn

I have been on a computer for 12 years now.

For some reason when I press space, it interprets it as two spaces so I get the first character of the word after the space wrong every time... maybe I'll have to try again on windows sometime?

Just tried it. About 56 wpm. :(
I would like at least 70.

Now I got something to do while waiting for the computer to do some processing intensive task or something.

70 is really high :).  Usually not achieved when normal computing but only when learning it the right way.  like that method.

I think the finger diagram thing is for general placement. I kinda use the finger placement. but have gotten used to doing it a bit different. For example, my right index finger is the one usually pushing the space bar. I'm not at 70WPM though, kinda hard to break habits though.

Hmm, space should be from either thumbs. What else will you use them for?
Thumbs are competely useless for typing other than space. This particular habit is easily broken... Rest can be difficult.  Because index finder and space means you have to twist your hand a bit.  Feels awkward when i tried just now lol.
I used some modifications too, but as i grew and my hands too it kind of corrected automatically. Never made effort for it.

I am actually average at 80. Highest score i have is 100. All fingers correctly used.
But this limit is difficult to break.
90 if i type from memory and 60 if there are to many punctuations.

I guess the "twisted" hands are because of past habits. I have studied body builders/"jocks" and typing on a keyboard hurts their hands because of the positioning. Blame the wrestling I guess, but my hands/wrists fall in the category. My wpm is around 60, so not a whole lot of harm done.

60 is good enough. It's not like we have to type fast when coding. Thinking takes time as it is.

Thanks relax, that worked. Got my 65 - 75 wpm going.

I find this website better http://10fastfingers.com/typing-test/english

On my computer it is quite slubish and sleow, and doesn't reconize all my key strokes. But the one i have linked is recording perfectly and has more words.

Anyways thanks for the share.

The first one wasn't working for me as i don't have chrome installed :P

But i used the one Phage linked...and holy shit i surprised myself. I remember my freshman year, the girl i had a crush on sat next to me in our typing class and whooped my ass every time we took a test. I'd have maybe 20 wpm, she'd have 25. I got better, had 28, she had 31. By the end of the semester I was at 33 wpm and she was at 38. Haha i loved her for that, beating me in something computer related :P

Anyways, got 66 wmp with 6 mistakes on my first try. and 80 wpm with 3 mistakes on my second.

blew my own mind, i thought i was in the 40 wpm range or so....wow! awesome links guys, thanks for making me feel pro :D

edit* took another look at the post and is this really the high score?? that...blows my mind. i've always thought of myself as a shitty typer....
then again, i find myself spelling words by seeing my fingers type them out in my head. like for apple; in my head ill see my fingers type out apple. just something i do when i'm bored...haven't done it recently lol. but in the past...

as you can see its pretty easy to manipulate score ^^

i do not think someone actually got 215wpm...
im usually at 30wpm thats a bit slow for a guy who has used computers for 15 years
but honestly i don't need to type fast
