: How about that Windows 8?
: silenthunder October 22, 2012, 03:34:37 AM
So based on previews, dev kits, etc. that you've seen about Win8, what are your thoughts about it?

W7 is enough for me. In fact, I would prefer to go 100% arch linux than installing W8.

I haven't used it too much, but I've heard a lot of negative opinions. It seems to be way more focused on the tablet OS than the desktop. And though it boots a bit faster, and there are other changed, it's really similar to Windows 7, though the start menu defaults to a tablet like interface too. It's weird, but if you want the latest and greatest go for it. I agree with Snayler though, I just have one windows computers for the few things that I can do only with it, but my laptop and everything else run linux.

Yea i'm really not feeling the whole tablet UI. I'd stick with 7 for now. Will look into 8 a bit more though to see if it has anything useful.

Windows 8 is for tablet, but for laptop and PC. I would stick with 7.

I try to limit my exposure to any new Windows products until they get their first service pack out.

Also, there was some drama about dual-booting being impossible now? I'm not sure if that got fixed yet... Meh, I'll wait.

...A bold endeavor.

I dont get that statement.
How can you even compare a real OS to a joke like w8?

Im doing 110% Arch, whats that windows?

They only thing i would like to see is exploits, the rest is boring when it comes to winblows.

I don't think anyone is trying to compare w8 to anything favorably.

Well if you want to use tablet, i think win8 is the way to go. Since it seem to better than ipad3 and android. BTW glad to see another 9gagger there.

Fuck that rock Jelly Bean on a tablet! A real OS on a tablet like backtrack would be epic though, but it needs to be native and not chrooted

Backtrack is not a real OS. its just a crappy ubuntu version with a different repo.
If we where talking gentoo, arch, fedora or debian , im interested.

Actually I heard some stuff about a tablet running KDE, dont know what backend though.

I'm with you guys on that win8 should be for tablets, not desktops. However my mom has a Dell All-in-One 24" touchscreen desktop, and I think it'd be interesting to try it out, but I don't see it being any better than any of the other Windows OS's... In my opinion, XP was they're most stable OS and since then they've been focusing on eyecandy.
