If this applies to you, then listen up. If not, then don't worry about it. This isn't directed at any particular individual nor would it matter if it was. This is just something that I felt needed to be said, for those that refuse to acknowledge it of their own accord.
Please let me remind you; this is the Internet. Another point of interest; you are NOT on Facebook. This is not the part of the Internet that houses the 'average minded'. This is the shadowy suburbs of the Internet Underground. You are now surrounded by hundreds of others who were smarter than everyone else in their class, including the teachers. You're surrounded by people who have aced every test and decided that the homework was just not worth their time. No one cares that you're the president of your chess club or that you skipped 3 grades or that you graduated early or that you made your teacher cry because you proved them wrong in front of the whole congregation during an important media presentation. This is the Internet. This is the Underground. We've all done it and you are no longer special. You're in a whole new league now and the sooner you get used to the bottom rung, the sooner you'll move past it. Most of us are happy to help, but don't you dare try to think you're better than us. Some of us eat noobs for breakfast.

Very well said. Get rid of your ego and repeate after me: I dont know.
There is tons of things I dont know, so when someone asks something I dont know, I say I dont know or I dont say anything at all. I dont go around pretending I am the leetest shit around here, I just dont like talking about.. I go ahead and ask Xires instead <3

so beautifully crafted. I almost feel like I'm too much of a noob to be posting on this thread. ;D
-
I know I won't ever get to the "I'm not a noob" stage until I've mastered at least 2 programming languages..although I'll still be a noob, but I won't think I am. I agree, let's sticky this. I need a remind not to think I'm good when I hit my goals
-
I've always known this. I always thought I was the only one this applied to.
-
Well said.
My trick to avoid thinking I'm better than anybody else: We all have skills in something, not that you're better than someone else, you can just be different. Not better or worse, at the same level, but different. You can do something he/she can't, and likewise, you can't do something he/she can.
Instead of thinking you can be the king of the hill... get your shit sorted and work on your flaws, we all have dirt to clean. And it's not that you have to become 120% humility, with just a bit, balanced with your ego, you're good to go. No extreme is good.
:-*

I don't know much.. So for now I know I'm s noob... Maybe one day when i have done something to speak for me...
Oh well.
-
Very nice. Good to see someone else who gets it.

Stickied because we are all noobs. Noobs until we die. There is ALWAYS someone better. Remember that.

Don´t worry, being a noob isn't a shame; we all stared at ZERO..
as long we keep the willingness to go forward and a open mind for new ideas and suggestions of the more experienced and creative. This way eventually we will rise above our teachers.
We can´t master everything, we got to take our pick, and make it part of our daily lives.
Everyone who follows that path can one day be part of a select few called elite in there area of expertise.
Jack of all trades, ¨master of ONE¨.
All great things come at a cost. Are we prepared..
We got to keep our heads on our shoulders, and never ever think we are elite.
The ¨elite¨ title can NOT in any way be self appointed.
It has to be given to us by the community surrounding the subject we specialized in.
Our goal is not to become elite, but to learn. To learn is to become..
-
Deffinately agree, everday is a school day regardless of age/experience. No body knows everything and theres always something to learn!

Beautiful! Tears in my eyes. :')

Nice write up Xires.

I love when someone point out so immportant thing. It's just amazing. I used to be that kind of people who say : "I am not noob", but then you realise how small you are.

Thanks,it all applies on me therefore I joined the world of hacking to learn something that other people don't learn or don't want to. They are happy cause they know how to use MS Word,Exel, paint. They don't even try to find out how things work. How much effort it takes to make a program that they use and if there's an error, they simply says, "They don't even know how to make programs!". I am not perfect, I am a very big noob. I am here to learn, and learning more and more day by day. As it has been said earlier,no body is perfect,no one knows everything. We all start at zero. One thing I have learnt that you should be independent and try to solve your problems as far as you can solve them. You should never give up.
Well, a nice guide "for those who think that they're too good to be considered noobs...". +1 for you, Xires. :) <3 you Xires. ;D

For me i will always be a noob by one simple fact: my uncle exists. Now since none of you know him this may not mean much to you. so i will state it like this. I once asked him(at the tender age of 15) how many programming languages he knew. He hit 15, shrugged his shoulders and said "i dont know theirs more" If you bought a compaq in the 90's, he built it. By that i mean he programmed all the drivers, BIOS's, and got all the parts talking. Again, in the 90's alone he had around two TB of cracked programs, ranging from 10$ games up to 30k$ software packages. Every mmorpg he has ever played from ultima on up he has made his own bots, and has never been caught. its my sincerest dream that when he dies(he has a sever liver problem unfortunately that i might gain access just to the favorites he has stored, let alone all the rest of the info he has stored away. He knows, off the top of his head any piece of networking gear ever made, and i mean knows it. default settings. which firmware update gave it the best usage, or in some cases, a competitors firmware that worked on it better than their own. He invented a number of useful things or simply had good money saving ideas as well. Like the time he wrote a shell script and got 12 of the people under him fired, because they were now unnecessary it took him a week to program it. Or hey you know how computers dont come with CD's any more? its all just put into a partition on a hard drive? yeah that was him. Anyway its just a slew more of stuff like that. So as far as ive been concerned, since the age of 15, untill i surpass him i am and shall always remain a noob. At least when compared to the actual knowledgeable people.
Then again if i didnt feel that way i wouldnt have signed up here. Anyway like the post. regardless its always a good reminder that at the end of the day none of us are as smart as we think we are, and if we keep an open mind, its far more likely to be filled with something useful.

I'm here to learn I'd probably be the newest member to date, but eh. So long as I learn everything I can I'm quite happy! Besides, no matter how good you are there is always going to be an Asian out there better then you are! :P
-
I m here to learn too , and really this message , well it put me in a good mood !
I can't agree more with what you say , you will never be the best .
-
Spoken like a true prodigy!
you can't learn unless you don't know, after all.
-
you can't learn unless you don't know, after all.
makes no sense?
-
makes no sense?
Makes lots of sense.
Because if you already "know", what is there to learn? so in order to learn, you must first not know ;)
-
But in order to learn you also have to know what to learn! Resulting in you have to know before learning.
-
But in order to learn you also have to know what to learn! Resulting in you have to know before learning.
But that doesn't include what you're actually learning.
Knowing that you want to learn C++ and learning C++ is totally different. So in case to learn C++ you must first not know how to use it.
God bless cannabis.

In all actuality everyone is a Noob in some way or form. Not one person knows everything about the Underground and Tech related stuff. You can master something and consider yourself Leet in that area.
-
To know that you don't know is the real knowledge worth knowing.
-
But in order to learn you also have to know what to learn! Resulting in you have to know before learning.
True, but think before your logic of what you wanted to learn. I would have imagined that you had to research, stumble or be influenced across what it was that you wanted to learn for a specific subject. So as the basic first step, not knowing and reaching the desire to study a certain task/trait/etc would be the first step to learning. In my crossings of the definition of 'noob', many people have different views. I don't believe everyone is 'new' but rather have different expertise. A mechanic may not be a good electrician just like a programmer may not understand the full design of networking. I think the key is to be a humble person since there is always room for improvement, to help others which in turn may help you.

An eternal student (noob) here. This is a philosophy for life.

I saw this long ago but assumed it was locked anw I love how this sounds: we are the underground, it really is awesome :)
