I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my HP Compaq nx9010 and it doesnt have wifi drivers Ive check google but all Im getting is windows stuff and forums on older Ubuntu drivers problems. Im useing a 54 mps wireless card that is inserted in the expansion port below the floppy drive. any ideas?

Three things:
1 - It would be a good idea to post some information about your hardware. More detail helps us help you.
2 - Ubuntu is already at 12.10?
3 - Try Debian at the very least. Ubuntu hit rock bottom after Lucid Lynx.
EDIT:
4 - Precise sucks
EDIT No. 2:
5 - Fuck Unity
-
What lucid said...
And Ubuntu didn't hit rock bottom, but it really started to suck after they started to use Unity which is such a shit. I'm still on 10.04 lol. Works good, why change?
Anyway, with so much info there is so much we can do... we need precise hardware details - specifically the wifi card maker and model.
I cannot find any detailed info about the laptop, but I didn't try to find any, either way if it's a Broadcom then it was discussed and solved few times before:

ok the laptop is from 2000 and has a 86x Intel processor, 512 MB of ram. Its a bit slow but I need to learn how to use linux so I installed it on that. if I need to ill look around and find the processor speed. The wifi card is a 3com officeConnect Wireless 54mps 11g card its a first gen. I do have Toshiba I thought it would be a good idea to use it as a main laptop with all the info i can find on ubuntu so i can learn it. the other laptop is a Toshiba satellite with a AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile tech TL-60 2.00 GHz, and 2 Gigs of ram. it runs windows 7 right now and I could do a duel boot if needed. or even a full transfer because win 7 is installed as a 32 bit system and its kinda glichy. I hope the info I just gave Isnt useless lol.

Just pop in the live cd and itll probably work.
This is typical windows thinking..
The drivers are probably in the kernel already.
It not like downloading and installing it.

You still get updates? I recently convinced my friend to switch to Debian and he's loving it. Gnome2 is quite a gem. It's everything every 10.04 user could ask for.
@ OP - All I could say right now is that every linux user is quite familiar with driver issues. I urge you to search more and read Kulverstukas's links thoroughly. I'm sure you'll find your answer. Don't mean to seem unhelpful but I think Kulverstukas just gave you some solutions. If you can't seem to find an answer feel free to post again ;D .
Sorry off topic: What are you going to do when you get no more updates Kulver?
