I have a couple of questions about Android rooting, first one. After rooting your device,is it possible to go back to the normal user privileges(Un-rooting your device)?. Second one, Would rooting your device decrease the value of it, just in case you want to sell it?
I know I could use Google to find the answers,but ATM I'm so fucking lazy to do that :o

imo yes, however... nobody needs to know about it.

Depends on the hack you'll use. With some you can revert and some are permanent. I cannot tell which one is permanent.

Depends on the buyer. If the buyer is a phone-techie, a rooted phone increases the value of it self. For a general user it doesn't matter that much, either tell him that he'll have more privileges than a normal phone, or don't tell him anything.

As for UNROOT.. you make a backup of your rom before doing any changes. To unroot just flash it. both the rom and bootloader.
Or if you don't have one, just download it online and flash it.. unrooted now..
htc phones may show "relocked" in bootloader and a smart guy would know.
2) rooting voids warranty, htc phones will get warranty voided.. For each phone check whether the rooting is completely reversible or not. Htc ones have locked boot loaders with water marks. So....
Although after warranty period it doesn't matter. Someone who doesn't know root will not understand.. And someone who does would just flash stock to avoid any chance of you selling infected phone..

1. Depending on the phone and root method will determine if you can unroot and restore to factory defaults. In 90% of the cases you can, although before you start flashing make backups and be sure to do research on rooting, as well as unrooting and be sure to grab any unrooting files just in case the links go down (had this happen on my Droid X) Newer phones come with an unlockable/lockable bootload which will play a part as well (unlock bootloader, root phone, unroot phone, lock bootloader)
2. The value wont decrease, only your warrenty will go away. If you're selling the phone rooted, to certain crowds this will increase the value, to other crowds it wont change the value because they don't know what it is. But in any case, doesn't hurt to unroot and then sell as well.
What kind of Android do you have? I can link you to a reputable site to get the files you need for root/unroot if it can.

Rooting an android is easy. And reverting it back to its previous state is also easy. All you do is get the appropriate binaries, boot your Linux PC, connect your android device to the PC in factory mode, copy over the binaries, chmod them so they are owned as root and can be run by normal users and that's it, you got root when you execute the binaries on your android device. To revert it back just delete those files following the same method :P

I've used Odin to root my Galaxy Nexus (My girl has an S3 and she doesn't want me to root it :( )

More rooting information on the S3. Which carrier are you using so I know whether its GSM or CDMA so I can make sure to give you links to the best method for your specific phone.

I rooted my s3. Other rom. works 10 times better :). There are hacks around for reverting the flash counter.

I have a separate question. I just finished rooting my phone not 30 minutes ago, but now my phone wants me to update, I guess my question is should I allow the update? this is my first root ever and I'm not really sure what to do here.

which phone?.. It'd be better if you tell that.
Btw my htc evo 3d did not update after root. Had to lock the boot loader and flash stock.

The best thing to do would be to install a custom ROM. You wont have to worry about updating OTA and you don't have all the bloatware

Nope, it doesn't. And if your screen stops working how would anybody know it's rooted anyways?

:).. why not read it yourself?
besides this, when the phone is taken to service centre, they check for root.
also, if display is not working they will repair the phone and then check it. they'll then call you and tell you that you have "illegal" software on phone that void warranty.
Then they give you the option... Either pay or they return it as it was sent...

The only thing it says about it voiding your warranty is it "may" void it, not that that it does. And your warranty is covered by your provider, not the manufacturer. Legally, rooting your phone does not void it
EDIT: I guess I should add that I'm only talking about the United States. I don't know about other countries

ah yes... The may part :)..
The moment you log in and register it shows you the "agreement"... "by clicking.... Blah blah.... Void warranty.... blah..."..
to unlock the bl you need to give your imei.. And it is registered as voided.. Now the service centre just needs to ... Well you know..
anyhow... Well.. I rest my case..

I've got an original EVO 4G. I didn't brick it which is real nice, but somehow I've lost most of the work I did to it last night. After I achieve root again, I'll flash a new ROM and let everyone know how that goes. Thanks guys
