: Pirated Android Game Software - Problem?
: L0rd_M@dness December 27, 2012, 10:54:03 PM
I'm using Unity to develop Android games. The problem is that my license is pirated  :P  If I publish these games exported by the pirated license on Google Play, how probable is it that I get caught for using pirated software?

Wait, Unity? like a WM?
I don't think that Google play cares what you use to create apps. Exported apps don't embed stuff that says this app right here was created with pirated software.

I wouldn't worry about that and continue as normal.

well I'm not pirating anything android-related, I'm pirating the game development software with which I develop android games.
What I'm scared of is if this game goes viral, then some might analyze the .apk file and realize that the game was produced by Unity, then look for my license and not find it... Which is very improbable, but still.

@OP

http://blapkmarket.com  -- very good one as well.

@OP: would be nice if you would write some article about android game dev for beginners, just to cover the tools you prefer and why :)
I am looking to going from app dev to game dev on android, one day.

Hmm just wanted to say thanks I just checked this topic after 2 months and found out about 2 great android app download centers I didn't know about before  :P
Unity is great for phone game dev because of
What I don't like about it is that you can't really make objects via code. You have to use the GUI and then code only the behavior. Game dev also needs designing, in which I have no talent! :-\

Conclusion:
If your game becomes popular enough and companies start analyzing it, then there's a probability for problems to show up. But if it's a small app and only a couple of people download it, then nobody is going to look for a license and you're good to go.

As far as I know there is a full version, the best edition of this software available for about 200 pounds/dollars, as long as you are a student... find someone who is and purchase it if you're serious about creating apps.
Also I remember that you can also apply for like  a 6 months free version of the full software if you write to them, explain your unsufficient budget and your aims/goals...

I personally wouldn't release any serious project with a pirated Unity, just in case they do sue you and you lose an ownership of the app, get your all profits taken away with addition to some retarded fine to pay.

But yeah, it is your choice, nothing stops you in creating a full app on pirated, but then using an official to create a release version would be more wise, especially that we're talking here about Google corporation.
