I tried my hand at glitch art for the first time tonight, it's pretty cool. I used this (http://www.hellocatfood.com/2009/11/16/databending-using-audacity/) site as a nice little tutorial. I jacked up poor little tux bigtime.
Basically the theory behind databending is this...
1) You get an uncompressed image (bmp or similar)
2) You open it up in an audio editor like audacity as just raw data
3) you put filters and shit on it until you deem it finished (be sure not to mess with the header :P)
4) export as .bmp and view it all mashed up and distorted.
This is a very simple way of how to do databending, you can actually do the same with a text editor, it would probably take forever, but you know, if you fancy such a challenge. Anyway, here (http://i.imgur.com/lCPS2.png) is my finished product. Bent up tux. I think it's pretty much an eyesore, but practice makes perfect lol.

Seems interesting. Kind of like some digital neo-Dadaist expression.
I would assume the same would be possible by editing the raw hex data of an image?

Ive never heard of this, but it sounds really cool actually. Kind of like a programmers non-artistic artistic approach to art. Very interesting, I'll have to try it. Great share!

haha if that is art then shoot me.

Your body should have been horrendously disfigured to the point of FUBAR from the colossal amount of bulletholes by now.
There are a ton of anti-art, pop art, Dada and crap art movements which have gained mainstream recognition and are now considered by many high profile artists to be in fact, art.
If you haven't heard of it before, look up L.H.O.O.Q.
Now, I don't agree with this stuff either, but that's the state of the times.

If it was done with circuit bending then I woulda been impressed.

Thanks for the replies and positive feedback :P
I lol'd at this: haha if that's art then shoot me.
I agree kulverstukas, that this peice is a major eyesore, and I wouldn't stare at it too long, but you should look up some glitch art on the google to see some pretty cool ones. ;)
