I have a pretty slow pc and i need to do some tweaking to keep its speed as fast as possible. Here are some tweaks i do ,
1. Keep the "temp" folder clean.
2. Keep the "%temp%" folder clean.
3. Keep the "recent" folder clean.
4. Go to msconfig and Unmark the services that i dont want, like error report, system restore, etc
5. Go to msconfig and unmark all start up programs.
6. Copy the batch file named "tree" from c\windows\system32\ , to c\ . A friend of mine told me that it refreshes everything in that drive.
7.KEEP the "prefetch" folder clean.
It would be very helpful if you guys shaired some of your tweaks.

Those are not really tweaks at all, just cleaning the crap.
What I do is clean the garbage with CCleaner, clean the registry with Registry mechanic, defrag my drive with Auslogics disk defrag and it is good to go.
Also:
1. "temp" folder IS %temp% folder... %temp% is a system environment variable and not a folder name, ya know.
2. ^
3. Why have that enabled if you are cleaning it anyway? for me it's disabled.
4. I guess that's OK. But I use ProcessHacker instead.
5. I guess that is OK too...
6. No. Refreshes what? what does a "refresh" do?... your friend is a douche if he truly believes that doing "tree" makes your HDD clean.
7. why? just leave it...
P.S:

I've never had to use CCleaner or Registry Mechanic and I don't even remember the last time I defrag'd my hard drive
Never needed to
Just keep it clean from the beginning

Just keep it clean from the beginning
That means never turning the computer on.

Sorry for the spelling mistake, it was going to be "prefetch" folder. And i use system mechanic pro for all that registery cleaning, disk defraiging, etc is that ok.
By the way, what does that tree.bat do?

Haha no, it's on most of the time, I've just never had a problem with it getting fragmented or cluttered

I don't see how this is tweaking windows o.O more like cleaning up the crap... I just use CCleaner for this (including the registry, CCleaner has an option for that...
Here's where to Tweak your system (Windows 7)
1. Create a New Folder
2. Name it:
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
Will give you quick access to several tweaks that can speed up your machine.

Sorry for the bad naming, nothing els came in head back then. But thanks for the share. And is it ok to use system mechanic pro?

Check this site (i suppose you are on a winXP) disabling some services help a lot.(but with Caution)
http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/WindowsXP.htm (http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/WindowsXP.htm)
This is a good read:

You can use the tool Eboostr is great and it works
http://www.eboostr.com/ (http://www.eboostr.com/)
google it you know how to get it.
You need a usb stick for that.
The best advice is to buy extra ram.

Talking about speeding up the crap called M$hit, game booster does free up some good amount of memory stopping unnecessary services .. it lets you choose which ones besides a suggsted list. That really helps. It also says it defragged some memory but am not sure if that actually is done. Cause defragging the memory would be quite a cpu intensive process.. anyway.
btw, does anybody use a different shell than the default explorer? there are a few like sharp enviro, light step etc.

Mh, I expected some registry hacks here instead of cleaning up.
However, here are 50 of them: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/37920/the-50-best-registry-hacks-that-make-windows-better/ (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/37920/the-50-best-registry-hacks-that-make-windows-better/)

I use Tune-up which also gives the feature of One Click maintainance. It defragments registry, hard disks, remove broken shortcuts, delete all the temporary file and much more. You just have to do nothing.Simple :)

One nice way of tweaking your windows is disabling services. I usually use the blackviper's website (http://www.blackviper.com/) to know which services I can safely disable, which dependencies each service has, etc... And sometimes he writes a nice description of what the service really does/is used for (unlike the shitty cryptic descriptions MicroSh!t puts there).
