So I used UNetBootin, and when I try booting from "USB" on the boot menu, it blows me off and runs w7 so, I went to the setup menu and noticed it was reading my USB under "FDD"??? So I booted off of "FDD" in the boot menu and Arch Linux started up but didn't carry out, it started with "SYSLINUX blah blah...." I let it sit for thirty minutes and it never moved... Please help and excuse me I'm not neccesarily new to this but not where i need to be. Excuse my terminology if in correct but please help me or reffer me to another post thanks.

Format your flash drive in FAT32 and then use win32 disk imager instead of unetbootin
-
Its the bla bla bla im interested in.
Even recently I made a USB drive with arch on it.
Some minor modifications are needed to get it booting.
Its the bla bla you should be interested in.

Don't use unetbootin. Learn how to use the dd command. That's the only thing that seems to work for Arch USBs
-
It actually works with unetbootin but youll have to make a label for the disk..
dd is better though also scary!

Oh really. I didn't know that. Yeah I'd rather just use dd. Of course if you are trying to install Arch Linux and don't have another *nix then it's kind of a catch 22.
-
ok i have few question, if i dont know somthing i like to ask so... first whats wrong with UNetBootin and are its problems specific to Arch? Also how is dd better, i dont know a damn thing about the infimous "data destroyer" :D
-
I am assuming you formatted on Windows. Throw in a live cd and do the setup from a Linux environment.
-
Yeah indeed, we could suggests things here that will make things even more difficult but thats ^ an easier solution.
-
well, i said fuck Arch and tried somthing easier and went with ubuntu, it did the EXACT same thing. went to boot off of the USB and it went to start and didnt carry out... im just on the edge of saying fuck this.. lol
-
Well in that case your gonna have some major trouble installing arch.
Not trying to be a bitch but... try harder.
-
im clueless wtf do i need to do, whats going wrong? process of elimination... the problem cant be specified to either distribution due that they both did the same thing... so im thinking theres a problem with how UNB is writing it to the flash drive but i dont know the dd command line :( should i try win32?
-
???
You tried Arch. Said fuck it. Tried Ubuntu, and can't do it. Why try Arch in the first place? Idk man there's quite a few different programs to burn *nix to usb. I've personally never had any problems burning ubuntu to a usb. Maybe reformat the thingie? Otherwise it seems you will just had to do as proxx said and try harder i.e. google more. If you don't know how to use the dd command I would suggest looking it up, try reading a little. No one has ever installed Arch linux EVER without reading ALOT. dd syntax is honestly really simple. If you can't do it I suggest sticking to windows.
-
wait..... this guy doesn't know what the dd command is, and is so lazy to google and read about it, then he is trying to boot archlinux. ha ha ha! he must be joking. even setting it up 'the whole process' needs some great googling and reading alot of guides.
i suggest he goes with ubuntu if he is feeling this lazy but still need linux on his machine. otherwise he does some reading and alot of reading. its better to learn things the hard way, that feeling of personal achievement is so sweet.
-
It's not that I'm lazy, I Have come home and have been working on this for three days straight... So please, chill out. It was the first time I realized there was another way besides vmwares shit. Arch just so happen to be the first distribution I tried dude. And if I'm told dd is the most efficient way then by hulks left testicle I learn it. I did not know arch was going to require the effort I have ALREADY put into it much less even more time. I understand I'm new, I understand people that know there shit hate new people lol I'm the same way. There is a reason I came to this forum specifily to learn and thats what I'm doing self accomplishment is fucking awsome being insulted sucks :,( thanks for everything guys. I know what I need to do <3

Toy around with ubuntu, fedora or suse learn that first, than you can switch to a harder distro.
There is actually one person I know who started out with arch and I personally thought him.
I started out knowing nothing, knew nobody who did. I just started playing around.
We can go and recap everything about USB booting etc but the web is full of it.
Complete spoonfed tutorials are all over the place, as I said; try harder.
Im more than willing to help but youll have to come with something.
A specific error message would be a starter.
"Its not working" is not gonna cut it.
