I vaguely remember hearing somewhere of a linux distro similar to back track but based on ubuntu. ive done some googling around and i havent found anything too promising. Does anyone have an idea of what i may be thinking of?

Backtrack 1 -3 is based on slax, backtrack 4 -5 is Debian based.

nUbuntu used to be similar, it doesnt exist anymore though unless you can find a dl mirror for the iso somewhere.

NodeZero is also Ubuntu based.
If you need nUbuntu, I still have the .iso I can upload it, I also got BT4/5 and NodeZero, but those are easy to find.

Backtrack 1 -3 is based on slax, backtrack 4 -5 is Debian based.
BackTrack 5 is based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx)

The only linux distro specifically made for "hacking" is backtrack. Hacking isn't a one thing click, even if you did break into your neighbors wi-fi you'll have to be careful and cover your tracks.

would BlackBuntu be what your looking for ? (Bbuntu).
I haven't gotten it to work myself, yet I havent really tried.

Some, but most need a little to much knowledge to excute the attack and ofcourse be succesfull and quiet
