General discussion / Taters's annual steam game giveaway
« on: December 24, 2014, 04:38:19 pm »
Every year I give away games on steam as part of my company's give back program. Throughout the year we take member donations and around christmas we buy up a bunch of games on steam sales and give them to people who can't afford them. We're nice like that. So if you're interested, PM me your steam email address and I'll send you a game out of our library. No requests, it's a gift and we give what we give.

Taters

Oh yeah, telling me the platform would be nice too. Win/Mac/Nix. Just drop that in the message, i'd hate to gift shit you can't use.

Wait, since when does taters code? i swear this is my first code shit i have ever seen from taters. I should get out of this shit hole of Africa; i am way too behind.

I was a professional programmer for 3 years before moving into systems administration and then security. I just don't often show off.

Also, I decided to learn a bit of python a few days ago and was bored. So that helps too.

Why define "count" to be one, and not simply do:

Code: [Select]
while 1:
?

Anyway, lulz at the script.

Because I originally had it set to 100 and had the loop subtract 1 every cycle, but it appeared to be funnier with it being an endless loop. I went with the first thing that popped into my head.

Pretty much speaks for itself.

Code: (python) [Select]
import random
import time
import datetime
count = 1
while count:
seconds = datetime.datetime.now()
wait = random.uniform(0.1,2)
if seconds.second % 5 > 0:
print "wub"
else:
print "GRAWWOOOLLLRRRAAANGANG"
time.sleep(wait)

I can't find anything close enough that can provide the bandwidth i need. I'm maxing out every speedtest server in a 2 state radius...

I can't do discounts till I know what it will cost. The response to the shirt has been a bit underwhelming. I might not be printing them at all yet, till more people are interested.

You know that previous guests get them at cost. So whatever my cost per shirt is is what you could buy at. I guess i'll kick in free shipping as well for those guys. I'm already basically doing that, since a flat rate shipping box is like 5.50. I'm not trying to make money on these.

It's way too expensive. Send me the design template. Maybe I'll get it printed on a blank shirt. Cloaths are much cheaper from where I'm from.

What the fuck is wrong with you? Seriously, were you dropped on head or is this a naturally occurring problem?

I hope so, since we're potentially launching the following today:

That's right skidds, you too can own a piece of the HLH madness with what is potentially the first piece of official HLH merchandise.

This is a rough idea of what it will look like. I just changed the shirt to a more comfortable type, which has somewhat changed the positioning of the text, so i'll likely move the text on the back down a bit. Obviously that would be shown before any money changed hands.

So here's what I need from you all. Yup, you're not getting out of this easily. I need to know how many of you would, cash in hand now, purchase one of these shirts if they were for sale. The price will start at $25 a shirt. I know that's pricey, let me explain why:

Currently, to run a one off run of this shirt in medium, my cost before shipping is $19. That's bloody expensive. But, here's the nice thing about this thread: the more people that are going to put dollars to their post, the more the cost goes down.

"What do you mean by that, Taters?" Well I'll explain a bit further:

If I do a run of say....10 medium and 10 large? My raw, before shipping cost per shirt is a whopping $13.22 per shirt. Obviously I'm adding about 6 dollars to that to cover shipping and because I'm a greedy jew, so the price would at that point drop to $19 (I'm greedy but giving).

What I'm saying here is, if we hit 20 people wanting to buy, the price will be 19$. The more we hit, the more the price drops. I'm trying to cover all costs here and provide something that's not outrageously priced.  $19 per is my goal, because that's what one on XKCD costs, and I think that's fair.

More fun numbers? If 30 of you bastards want a shirt, the price would drop to $11.09 per, meaning the shirt would cost $15 for you. I think that's a fair price as well.

So there you have it. I'm asking who's interested. I'll keep a running total here in this post so that we know what to expect. If you're interested, I just need a size and a quantity. Such as "1 medium". We are using the American sizing chart, so take that into consideration. We will also do shirts for those of you old enough to have kids and who are interested in being vulgar!

Yes I will orders:

Youth Small: 0
Youth Medium: 0
Youth Large: 0

Small: 0
Medium: 1
Large: 4
XLarge: 0

Love and cookies,
Taters

Not that many would come to listen. Plus we'd end up having our video shown.

Woah woah woah...do you hear that? Yes.. I think it is! It's a new episode of Hacking Localhost! Holy effing fuck!

It's true, the rumors you have or have not heard are true, HLH has returned. We have better recording equipment, better internet, and we're twice as drunk as we normally are. Sadly, on this milestone recording, Daemon was not able to be with us. He has a sore throat due to deep throating too many manparts. Sad as that is, the show must go on, as we have proven many times before!

Special guest Connection joins us to kick off this new year right, with alcohol, security news, and looks back at a year of recording.

Hit us up here: Episode 8

As I have always said, thanks for spending the time to listen. This ep comes in at about 1.5 hours, and is the start of a new strategy to not edit the show. Note that I said live in the recording. That's incorrect. If I call it out here, you all can't make fun of me for it, right? Right? Guys?

Let me know what you think

If you order from bells, he'll do all the work for modding and tuning.
