If you want to get into coding your own tools I would read Violent Python, If you just do a google search you'll find a place you can download the PDF for free. It will teach you Python from a hacker point of view, even if you know absolutely no Python.

There is probably some sort of metadata stored within the file, probably even more so if the executable was decompiled and if other sorts of resource files (images, text docs, music) are compressed into the exe.
I'd just try to decompile and extract the data yourself and see what you can find. Google brings up quite a collection of metadata extractors for different file types.

I have a SGS2 that does the same thing from time to time. Mine is rooted and has Clockworkmod Recovery so usually I just boot into recovery and do a factory reset and it'll boot up.
