Where I live, we don't celebrate Christmas or the new year's eve. Therefore, these days are just like normal days of the year.

Found it on the Webs / JanOS: Turn your phone into an IoT board
« on: October 31, 2015, 02:24:50 pm »
Current development boards for Internet of Things solutions have one big problem: they are very expensive. Boards like the Raspberry Pi or Arduino have a limited feature set and simple extensions, like a GSM shield, can cost $80. That is a shockingly high price when a full smartphone can be available for just $30. Why not break out the mainboard from a mobile phone and use that to develop embedded projects? Cheaper and more powerful.

JanOS is an operating system designed to run on the chipset of mobile phones. It runs without a screen, and allows you to access all phone functionality, from calling to the camera, through JavaScript APIs. JanOS can run on any rooted device that can also run Firefox OS. This includes devices shipped with Firefox OS, as well as Android devices that received a port. If your device is not listed, but it can run Android 4 or higher, you can attempt a port yourself.

Window updates from an enterprise update server not configured to use encryption are vulnerable to an injection attack

Windows 10 has come and it has had its fair share of controversies from spying on users to disabling the pirated games and hardware. The latest to hit the headlines is not related to Windows 10 in particular but all Windows patches issued by Microsoft. It seems cyber criminals can intercept the of Windows patches and inject it with malware using WSUS server in a corporate network.

Exactly how this can be done was demonstrated by researchers from UK-based security firm Context demonstrated at the Black Hat conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday. Context researchers demonstrated how hackers can compromise corporate networks by exploiting a weakness in Windows’ update mechanism.

Hacking and Security / Microsoft Windows 10 spies on you by default
« on: August 07, 2015, 01:18:54 pm »
While Microsoft is offering for free it new Windows 10 OS, security experts argue that the cost for user privacy is much higher.

Microsoft Windows 10 is the new operating system of the IT giant, the newborn already reached more than 14 million downloads in just two days. The experts who have already analyzed Windows 10 explained that it is quite difficult to change default settings, and these settings represent a threat for the user’s privacy.

Technology journalists described Windows 10 as faster and more user-friendly than any previous version of Windows OS. The privacy settings in Windows 10 operating system are invasive by default, the experts confirmed that in some cases the changing of a parameter involves over a dozen different screens and the connection to a company website. The procedure request users signing in with their Microsoft email account, this means Windows can have access to their email accounts, messages, contacts and calendar data.

Microsoft Windows 10 comes with the new Edge browser which serves user personalized ads. The Microsoft voice-driven assistant Cortana reportedly “plays fast and loose with your data.” Microsoft Windows 10 wants access to user locations and location history, another element of concerns for its users. Consider also that user locations and location history could be provided not just to Microsoft, but to its “trusted partners,” but who are these trusted companies?

Alec Meer of the ‘Rock, Paper, Shotgun’ blog highlighted this statement in Microsoft’s terms of use agreement:
“We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to.”

General discussion / Re: Who upgraded to Windows 10?
« on: July 31, 2015, 02:10:17 am »
Lol, funny replies from EZ members, obviously we have people with good sense of humor. Anyway, I had this icon in my task bar for a while, that offers the opportunity to upgrade to Win 10 for free, I was confused whether to give it a shot or not,the desktop looks good but I'm not sure about the performance and security.
