NSA X-KEYSCORE Server Sites
« on: August 08, 2013, 12:44:52 am »
I wasn't very sure if this should go in this board "Hacking & Security" or in "Found it on the Webs". If I place it incorrectly I kindly ask a moderator to move it to the section that he believes is appropriate.

While some server sites are known NSA-Echelon spy stations of the Five-Eyes -- US, UK, CA, AU and NZ -- many of the server sites are shown at, or near, national capitals. These may be symbolic locations or, intriguingly, may indicate X-Keyscore servers at US embassies.
A surprise is the dot at Moscow. Another is a site shown in south-central China, far from Beijing, located nowhere obvious (a long-shot: it's a covert server).
The NSA station in Hawaii where Edward Snowden worked is not shown on the map.
There are about 85 red dots on the site map which claims "approximately 150 sites," with 25 of the dots along the Antarctica coast.

Dots appear to be shown in 51 countries, plus seemingly circumscribed Anarctica. The densest concentration is in Europe, Middle East, South Asia, Central America. But none shown in top of the world, CA, NO, SW, IS, PT, most of South America, the Pacific and Atlantic islands, a slew of others.

My country is in the list, holy fuck? hold on for a second. Isn't the NSA's main objective is to keep the USA safe from any internal threats?

NSA works jointly with ICE if I'm not mistaken. ICE is the private investigations division of Homeland Security if you didn't know, they deal with illegal immigration and such.

My country is listed just below Afghanistan. Which isn't much of a surprise. There's a lot of tension between the ISI and the CIA :P

But how can one predict internal threats without seeing threats coming from "external" to "internal". I don't know if you get what I mean, but although I don't condone what the NSA is doing AT ALL, I guess the logic is something along those lines (they must motivate it somehow to higher-ups).

NSA works jointly with ICE if I'm not mistaken. ICE is the private investigations division of Homeland Security if you didn't know, they deal with illegal immigration and such.

But doesn't that still qualify as an internal threat? Or is the excuse something along the lines of: "immigrants come from other countries, so we're gonna basically spy on those countries as well."

Thank you sir, for both the move and the link.

Well my country is listed here and its server is near the country's capital. What my government says is that "America isn't spying, he is taking care of the cyber world by watching illegal activities of mischievous elements and we support that. ", WTF!! If I had a gun, I would have killed all the politicians of my country those who say it is right what USA is doing.

Do you think Russia has done a good job by saving Snowden for 1 year and not handing over him to USA?

I have said this before and will say it again. Tyrants live in fear of an uprising. So, the spy on their subjects. PRISM is living proof of it.
I'd also like to add, wtf at the fact that their server is located in my city.

And what my government is saying about this program is simple. Nothing. My government and democracy don't mix. Our PM is, as some of you might know, Nawaz Sharif. And he's a complete coward. And much like the US Government, fears uprising. He axed an army chief just for commenting on his rule!
He even committed high treason and got away with it.

Ah well, much off the topic talk here, but i'll say this. We are as strong when united as we are weak when divided.

If I were the PM of my country, I would have kept Snowden in my country as long as he wanted but my govt is coward.

While going through the presentation, I always encounter this phrase written in red "No strong-selector". What the hell is this suppose to mean? Anyone knows or at least can guess the meaning of it.

From the following article: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/08/01/1228134/-What-s-your-XKeyscore-Shhh-It-s-a-Secret

Quote
XKeyscore can determine your location by doing reverse searches. Did you write a document mentioning a certain name? Did you search for a term on the BBC’s site, or look at a town on Google Earth? XKeyscore can deliver up your e-mail address -- an example of what it calls a “strong selector.” “How do I find a cell of terrorists that has no connection to known strong-selectors?” A slide asks.

The explanation is still pretty vague, but from what I gather a "strong selector" is code for any clue of your location gathered from your Internet presence.
