Ok, I literally didn't read any of this thread except skimming over OP's first post. So I'm just gonna throw this out there because I'm sure this wasn't brought up:
I was just talking to my brother earlier today. He works in the border patrol side of things (ICE, more specifically), and is an ex Navy Seal. He said that the government is literally doing nothing right now. He's supposed to be arresting illegal immigrants, investigating the and such; but all he does all day is sit in an office. All day. He said that whenever the government claims that they are "prioritizing" something, it literally means that they are pushing it to the side and they'll deal with it "later." They don't deal with anything until it actually becomes a real problem, and he wouldn't even talk about some of the things the government IS doing. He said it makes most people sick... However he did say that a lot of what is 'wrong' with the government is the way the public acts and the falsities that they believe about the government.
It's not that the government is corrupt, (which, don't get me wrong, it is) it's just that they're all rather stupid and they're fucking lazy.
